Hi, I have an .avi file here and the video content is DivX3. My video player won't show video content (but it's o.k. With DivX5/6). By encoding the video content, do I lose less quality by just reencoding from DivX3 to DivX5 (Dr DivX?) or better reencode to XviD? Appreciate any help here

Yes, you will lose quality. But try avi recomp and make it a bit bigger and you wont lose that much quality.

Or you can try use fourcc avi changer and change it to div4 and it might work without any reconversion.

AviRecomp prevents you from using setting which may not work on your player. VirtualDub will work too, of course, but it won't prevent you from using settings which may not work on your player.
