Hi
I've a problem with my dvdwriter and/or burning program. That's the reason why I post in this forum, coz I don't really know the exact problem and i didn't want to post my first post in the wrong topic![]()
Anyhow this is what happened:
I made a movie last week and burned them to dvd, the beginning of this week i burned a cdr. I also installed a game (Simcity 3000) but I'm not sure if it was before or after the cd burning...i think after.
2 days ago i finished another movie and wanted to burn that to dvd again and i got the message: Waiting for drive to become ready; please insert empty disc (and the disc was placed).
I use the program Record Now Max (after deleting that program i tried Nero 5, came with the burner, but also gave the same message).
I've had this problem in the past when i first had installed Nero and then after a while switched to Record Now Max (and still had nero also installed). For some reason the 2 of them had a conflict or whatever, after removing nero it worked fine.
So i think that maybe the Simcity installation caused a conflict with RNM (if possible) but i don't know how to solve that problem. I deleted simcity after this.
So maybe you have some ideas of what to do...coz as far as I'm seeing it maybe my only possibility is formatting my drive...and i don't want to do that since the movie took alot of time to make!
ps I used the same dvd's i'm always using...so that doesn't have to be the reason (nashua) and also tried multiple discs (in case of a bad disc).
Ok thnx for taking the time to read this and hopefully someone has the answer!

Does the burner function like a CD-Rom drive? Can it at least read data and music discs? Have you checked in Device Manager for anything that may look amiss? Have you tried deleting it in Device Manager and seeing if it installs properly on reboot?

Well i've been working on the problem yesterday and this is what happened:
I tried to let him read a dvd and a backupcd and that worked fine.
I reinstalled Record Now Max and i was able to burn 1 dvd and after that i tried to burn a cd and...i was back at my original problem.
So today I'm going to try multiple things (first reinstall RNM) and try to burn multiple datadiscs (cdr) and/or multiple dvd's (so no changing of first dvd and then cd, coz maybe that's the problem). But if i can burn a cd now, then it must be a problem with some programs or so, coz the burner reads and burns...so i don't think that can be a problem.
I haven't deleted it in Device Manager but when i checked device manager it says that this device is working correct (or whatever the exact translation is) But after what i found out i don't think that the problem is the burner.
So i think i just have to format my drive and reinstall everything...anyway...that's what i'm going to do after everything i mentioned above.
thnx for your reply!

No need to format just check Microsoft KB for restoring the original ASPI. Record Now Max has its own driver that often conflicts with other software. Even though it also came with my drive I've had to dump it for compatibility issues. You may also install ASPI driver from Adaptec website. Workflow: uninstall both, reboot, install adaptec ASPI (standard not the newest beta (4.61 I think) install Nero then. Forget Record Now Max. Many apps come with DVD burning applet built in. By keeping it you risk more and more conflicts. There maybe a solution on Veritas Soft. website, check it.
