Just out of curiosity, Why do you want to do that?

This must be a joke right?

The short and correct answer is NO!

  5. the quality is rather lousy when convert dvd9 to dvd5 so i'm think of just putting the main movie to one dvd while the extra to another.
But if i were to just ripped the main movie any tools i can use to improve the quality of the video.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here.

But as far as DVD5 (from DVD9) back to DVD5 ... since you already compressed the video down to fit on a DVD5 you cannot "uncompress" it back to the original quality.

If you were to attempt to re-encode the already compressed DVD-5 with a higher bitrate the quality ... at best ... would be the same as the DVD-5 but most likely worst since you would be re-encoding it which would introduce more compression artifacts even if you use a high bitrate.

You cannot get quality back once it is gone.

As far as going from DVD9 to DVD5 you are correct ... it is better to put the main movie on DISC A and the extras on DISC B than to try and compress the entire DVD9 to a single DVD5

Some tools can even split a DVD9 over 2 DVD5 discs with ZERO quality loss but then you usually end up with all the extras on one disc and part of the movie then the other part of the movie (with nothing else) on the second disc.
