  1. When i load a avi file, sometimes i get this error message

"couldnt locate decompressor for format MPG4.

virtualdub requires a video for windows VFW compatible code to decompress video. directshow codecs such as those used for windows media player are not suitable"

what does it mean and how can i get the codec it asked for

If you are using MPG4 V3, then virtual dub won't open it or encode. MPG4 V2 will work. Microsoft has some anal retentive thing with their MPG4 V3 codec that only allows it to be used with ASF's.

  3. I think you will find the Kristal Codec pack in the 'tools' section here will get you past this one. (not guaranteed but worth a few minutes to try out.)

    Good luck,

The Mpeg4 V2,3,4 codec is available, take a look in the usual places, if you don't fine it let me know.

I had no problem downloading it from grokster, kaza etc along with fast and slow motion, smr and 3.11 alpha.
