  1. Software version info:
    Tmpgenc v2.157.155
    Option->Environmental Setting->VFAPI plug-in:
    DirectShow Multimedia File Reader.......3
    AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader................1
    AVI VFW compatibility Reader.............0
    CyberLink MPEG-2 Decoder.................0
    Microsoft MPEG-1 Decoder.................0
    Wave File Reader..............................0
    BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File Reader...........-2
    DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76+.....-2*
    TMPGEnc Project File Reader 2.58......-2*

I am using PowerDVD for the MPEG2 codec. The above settings I picked up from trawling thru the forum already so I have done my research.

I download the ReplayTV MPEG to PC using DVArchive (apologies if you aren't familiar with replayTV and the public domain tools available but it's not really that important to my problem).

Using Womble MPEGVCR I edit the MPEG2 file and save as SCVD MPEG2.

Tmpgenc cannot open the file, BUT if I open the same file with Windows Media Player, leave it open and then try to open with Tmpgenc it works just fine - wierd. I can re-encode to reduce the size for SCVD file and burn to CDR using Nero and it works in my DVD player just fine.

I suspect some kind of codec issue but have no clue how to trouble-shoot this type of problem.

Anyone know how to cure this one?

I'd also really like to know why I need to save the replayTV as SVCD MPEG2 using MPEGVCR to be able to open it in Tmpegenc at all but that's secondary since I need to do a GOP fix using the MPEGVCR tools anyway as the replayTV MPEG is full of errors which can mess up audio sync.

I am not sure if I can help you but I know that the mpgs from replayTV are not standard and do not work with TMPGEnc directly.

I have to run the ReplayTV mpgs through DVD2AVI first before I can do anything with them.

I then use TMPGEnc to edit and reencode the DVD2AVI file to a standard DVD format.

Try raising the priority of the Cyberlink mpeg2 encoder from 0 to +4.

  4. Tried various levels of priority for cyberlink but didn't work, I am still stuck with opening an mpeg2 file with Windows Media Player first

This past weekend I stared playing around with RTVTools. I was able to use the older version: RTVToolsrev4 to convert the replay TV mpgs into a more compatable mpg2.

Once I figured out how RTVTools works, it was easy.

Just run the Replay Files through RTVEdit.

Then through RTVConvert (This program will even demux the file if you want).

The final mpgs were compatable with most of my other editing, conversion programs.
