  1. Hi all,
I have a mpeg1 file coded with tmpgenc (352x288 pal) with (1:1 vga) aspect ratio, so when full screen is activated there are two vertical black box at left and right of the screen.

Can I change the aspect ratio to (4:3 pal) without recompress the file with tmpgenc?

Now, I have not the original video stream!

    Thanks in advantage

You can use Pulldown.exe to change the aspect ratio flag on an mpeg, but most players will ignore it since MPEG-1 supported only 4:3. To make matters worse, pulldown doesn't work on MPEG-1 files, although others might. Typically, any physical change to an mpeg will require re-encoding.

I do seem to recall a GUI version of PULLDOWN (not the batchfe pulldown gui, but a separeate product which did not use a dos EXE underneath), which may or may not work. I've never tried that one with MPEG-1 either. Check the tools section. It was buggy when I first tried it, and I quickly lost interest (the Pulldown.EXE GUI works fine for me ), but it may have what you need. Again, this is only a possiblity. I don't know if it will actually help in your situation, but I supposed it's better than nothing.

If the published source for pulldown matches the executable,
it should be able to change the aspect ratio on an Mpeg1.
MPeg1 is detected and the program continues if found.
That field is in the Sequence Header which an Mpeg1 has

I would hope that is not the source for the distributed version however,
it is a mess. Soon there will be a new one.
