Would like to purchase a high resolution, high quality scanner for scanning CD/DVD inserts and covers. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Must be compatible with Windows XP. Thank you for your help and reply.

  2. I have always been quite impressed with the Umax range of scanners.

If it is just for scanning disks and covers, any run of the mill scanner will do. If you scan them at high resolution, you will get bad looking images because the printing is not continuous. The printing used is set to have the different colors spaced between each other, and is normally very low resolution like 100 line per inch. Any scanner can do that. So just get a "name brand" scanner in the $50 range. Or if you really want, you can get a really expensive one in the $400 range, but it will look the same when you are done.

If you want to pay for a scanner that has some features, find one that will do de-screening on the scans, so that you won't have the prolem with scanning printed "objects" likes books, and cover, and disks.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

We use Epson 1670s at work and they seem to do well enough. Most of the things we scan get blown up to over 400% their original size and do pretty well at 600dpi.
