I bought a retail unit. I know they're the essentially the same. In My computer it says... 106. Is this the same for everyone who has a A06?

System is Win XP pro, ntfs.

  2. I have a Pioneer A04 and Win XP recognizes it as Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104. I think it's okay. The difference is in the software that comes with A06. The 106 is the OEM version and usually is not provided with any software.

I sort of thought about that on the way home from work today. Thanks for confirming.

I didn't bother installing anything off the cd. Windows recognised a writer on boot up. I use different software to capture, author, and burn. Heck I haven't even put the disk into the drive just to see what's there.

Is any of it really good? I'm a little concerned about installing a program that may make the other A/V stuff unstable.

  4. The only thing that might be an issue is the older SW you are using may need an update to recognize A06/106 (Nero and Roxio are always updating their SW to recognize new drives). But if you have superior SW you literally can throw away the CDs that came with the A06 and not ever notice the CD is gone.

My A06 was initially recognized by windows as an A06, however after installing the 1.07 Hacked firmware it was then recognized as a 106. Perhaps it is the firmware you are running.
