I use ffmpegx only to burn subtitle on the films to be able to watch the certain film on tv (from xbox 360).
The problem is that I do not want to change the resolution, size, format, etc. of the films I only would like to put a substitle on it but most of the time i dont manage to do that because from a 700mb film usually changes a 150 mb film.
Could you help me what to do and what I did wrongly?

    thanks

It all has to do with bitrate. Higher bitrate, larger file and better quality. Lower bitrate, smaller file, lower quality. The quality of your source video matters also. You need to set the bitrate correctly if you want a certain size file. Are you burning the subs permanently into the file? Otherwise, you may not need to re-encode if they are separate subs. Also, what format are the video files?

    And welcome to our forums.

The other option is...not permanently. Just as in a normal, factory-pressed DVD -- the subtitles can be switched on or off, under the control of the viewer. As redwudz said, if you don't insist on permanently-burned, non-selectable subs, then you don't have to re-encode the video. Saves time, saves quality, preserves maximum flexibility for the viewer.

If you go the selectable route, then simply re-author the DVD. The video will be left untouched, and therefore undegraded by an additional encoding. So, unless there's some overriding reason why the subs must be permanently made a part of the image, I would recommend simply reauthoring to permit selectable subtitles. In most tools, you can designate a default state of "on" for the subtitles, if desired.
