  1. Hi, I am a newbie who just installed a Sony DRU 510A. The only media I have right now is Verbatim DVD-R 2X.

I am running XP Home, and I have the burner configured as the master on the secondary IDE channel, with a CDRW as the slave. The OS sees the drive, and I am able to read regular CD-Roms in it.

I've been trying to burn DVD Video using either Ulead MovieFactory or TMPGenc Author. I can't get anything to burn. For example, TMPGenc will start the burning process, and will stall at sector 304 (out of some huge number), then suddenly kick out the disk and give me a message indicated the job has been successfully completed. This takes all of 2 or 3 minutes.

So far, I have tried the two programs on 8 different disks (I bought a 10-pack). Can someone give me some advice?

I can only offer you one piece of advice, highly consider purchasing some rewriteable media. You don't want to run through this 10 pack and not have 1 usable disc, its a bad waste of money. Since your drive is dual format, look for a +RW disc as it'll burn slightly faster than a -RW would. You'll be glad you got one in the end. Also, you may want to post what firmware you use, maybe the extra info can prove useful for someone who tries to help you.

OH and also if possible post the Media ID for these discs, they might just be bad media. You can get that from DVDInfo, its a tool thats listed on this site.

  4. thanks, Delerium

I am using what I believe is the latest firmware, 1.0d, from Sony's website.

I'll download the dvdinfo tool to try to provide others with warning info, and also buy some RW media.
