    Hello,

I am making a backup of a DVD and I used Shrink DVD. I am using nero 5.5.10.50. when I select burn the software displays an error that I need to use media with more available space. I am using 4.7 gig lead data DVD-R discs with a 4X rating on my Teac DV-W50D burner.

The files I am burning have an aggregate size of 4489mb and when I go into the Media info option in Nero it says that I have 4638mb available on the disk.

When I look at the size bar at the bottom of the of the screen in nero it shows everything past 4500mb is red.

    Does anyone have a solution?

    Thanks,

    PaPaDeath

your files are too big ....... max size for dvd is 4472 mb .... you need to shrink your files just a little so that they will fit

You need to learn about the differences between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes (for some stupid reason, they are each measured differently).

Trust the bar at the bottom of NERO. If you go "into the red", then your video is too big.

You can also highlight all the files you want to burn in Windows Explorer, then "right click", then look at properties. There is a number in bytes that cannot exceed 4,706,000,000 bytes.

    thank you for your help.

I don't understand how the dvd was not shrunk enough if I used the auto settings in DVD shrink. And the bar was all green in DVD shrink as well.

    Silly program

dvd shrink can sometimes get things wrong when using the standard settings (it only does a quick scan and then makes a guess at the compression rates)....... try using the deeper analysis function to get a more accurate size for the finished dvd.

  6. From one noobie to another, this what i've worked out.

in dvd shrink at the top of the app you see a 0mb to whatever size you dvd files are.

if your movie is dual layer then with no compression tab in the streams box selected you have say, 4,468MB in GREEN and 6,000MB in RED.

to me, GREEN is the MAX a publicly available DVD can hold and RED is the size of your MOVIE DVD.

if you select different levels of compresion in the streams box then you see the GREEN and RED portions change.

When the bar no longer has any RED parts the your compressed movie will fit on a 4.7GB disc.

this is how i see it, i could be wrong but it works for me.
