  1. Hi everybody. I have this new problem, I hope someone explaines.
I try to burn a DVD using Nero burning rom, it was usually ok for me, but the thing that happens, is that my new video, is over the 4.7 GB. size. And I tryed to burn it on this 8.5 GB disc, the problem is, that I truly don't know what do I do wrong, because when I try to play the video, after it's is burnt on to the disc, it plays well, until, it reaches a certain point, which i guess, when it reaches the part of the data, that starts after the 4.7 limit, and than the video gets stucked. It doesn't play no more, and I get an error code, that tells me that my disc is probably damaged, and that I should clean it's surface, but I tryed, to burn it again and again, and i just wasted the discs, because it is all the same, and I keep getting the same error code. I truly hope someone gives me a good advice on how to burn this DVD properly.

Go to the Tools section in the left column of this website. Download the absolutely free and wonderful software program called ImgBurn. Search around for a couple of tutorials/how-tos about using ImgBurn to burn a dual-layer disc. Burn your video ONLY to Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

If you do this, all your problems will be resolved.

Nero is known for selecting wrong layer brake. ImgBurn is the only tool I would use for DL disc.

  4. thank you for the imgburn advise, but I just tryed and I was in the middle of burning already, and there was this thing, that, the burner opened and closed again, and the programm continued working, but, than it gave me an error, after sometime. And Now I tryed to play this disc, but it gives me the same error, I had with Nero. Did I select the layer break wrong?

As filmboss80 recommended, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL media and IMGBurn...
How big is the actual file? With minimal compression using Shrink will give you a DVD-5 size with hardly any noticeable loss in quality.. Again depends on actual file size and compression needed...

  8. I have two videos, one is 5.81GB and the other 4.42 and they both gave me that same problem. And regarding, the Verbatim discs, I don't know if I can actually buy them in my country. I herd they are not for sale too much. I wonder why can't I use those I have. i don't know what to do now...

Because many, many members including myself using Verbatim DVD+R DL discs swear to their reliability....Are they 100% foolproof ? No,but they're more reliable with a high success rating then what you're using now....As far as your file sizes, I would use DVDShrink or DVDRebuilder to compress your files and burn to DVD-5 size disc..Else keep adding to your freesbie collection....

  10. well... i didnt want to use dvdshrink, cause I didn't want to loose quality, it seemed to me, some quality was lost and the video, is not too much of a high quality besides that.

Since you seem to be making sure that you do not tell us what your country is, we can offer no suggestions on places to buy Verbatim. And if your country is India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, then yes, you are probably out of luck as other posters have told us that they cannot find Verbatim in those countries, even though Verbatim uses India as a manufacturing location.

Remyisme -- if you cannot find Verbatim DL discs, why don't you simply try out DVDShrink to see what quality you get from shrinking the main movie to fit a single layer disc? DVDShrink is free, so it does not hurt to try.

Jman98 -- Do they sell Verbatims in Freedonia?

And I actually found this discs, on one internet shop, just now. I could try to buy them, but, I am not sure if it's gonna solve it for me.
Because I have this one thing: the first time I ever tryed to burn a dvd9, it was an ISO image and I couldn't split it, I had to burn it complete on one disc.
What I had at first, is that I burned the disc, but my pc, would not even read it, it wouldn't even load, and I tryed again but no luck. My friend took my computer, and brought it back to me, claiming, he burned this image for me, using my very same burner. I was surprised, and could not understand how did he do this, he never revealed it to me. But his disc works for me, it loads immideately, with no problems. That's why I feel like it is possible to burn dvd9 on my pc. I just need to find out what is it that bothers it to happen.
My friend, at first checked my computer, after I recentley tryed to burn dvd9 myself, and he found I had a very low memory, only some 248MB of it, so he said well, of course, you can't burn it, it's because of that. and he said buy a bigger memory, 1GB, and I bought and he inserted it, and now my computer works faster, it's true, but it didn't solve, the burning problem.
My friend claimes that I have a problem inside of my pc, and that I shouldn't ruch to buy the Verbatim discs, because he succeded to burn on Sliverline and he is sure it is possible to succesfully burn on them.

One of the major problems with non-verbatim DL discs is the inconsistency. Your friend may well have been able to successfully burn with your burner, although frankly this whole tale is sounding more and more fanciful the longer it goes on. If your friend did find some magic solution and isn't willing to share it with you then he is a dick. I suspect that he just had dumb luck. Anyone who recommends not buying Verbatim simply because he/she managed a lucky burn on some cheap-ass no-name brand has no idea what they are talking about, and should be ignored in all future conversations on the subject.

Bottom line - there is no perfect solution at this time. Using Verbatim DL +R with Imgburn for burning gives you the highest chance of success. Anything else is just wasting time and money.

FWIW, DVD Rebuilder will do a far better job of reducing DVD9s down to DVD5 without killing quality to the same degree as DVD Shrink. Well worth the download. Use the included HCEnc encoder for high quality, free reductions.

Next time you have an ISO file that you want to split, open it in DVD Shrink and use Re-Author mode to re-arrange the disc. You need to open it via File->Open Disc Image.
