  1. I have recently ripped my first movie. The only problem is the file is too large to fit on one 700mb disc. What I need to do is split the file into two. What program is out there that allows me to do this easily. As you may have noticed, I am new at this.

    Thank you in advance,

    Casey

  2. what codec did you rip the movie to? TMPGEnc is great for splitting MPEG.

  3. Use TMPGEnc. It is fine for any format (Avi/MPEG) as long as your TMPGEnc can open the file. If you plan to burn the video later, you can either encode the video to VCD/SVCD (if it is not in it yet) or just cut the file using MPEG tools of TMPGEnc.

  4. It is encoded in mpeg format. Is it a problem that the encoding is done, or can the splitting be done at anytime?

  5. Is it regular mpeg or VCD/SVCD/DVD format ?
The splitting can be done anytime, but if you have VCD/SVCD/DVD format, you can just slice the file using TMPGEnc in 4-5 minutes. Otherwise, you would need to encode to burn-ready (VCD/SVCD/DVD...) format first.

  6. It is in the regular MPEG format

Do I still need to encode it or is it done?

If you got it off a DVD it will be in the wrong resolution for
anything that goes on a CD playable in a DVD player.
Get DVD2SVCD to automatically put it on 2 SVCD.

If you just want to write an MPEG file to the CD to play in the computer
you can split it with TMPGenc mpeg tools or several others.

  10. I would suggest to you to encode your MPEG using VCD/SVCD/DVD template in TMPGEnc. Relate to VCD Guide https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm to devide your MPEG and make 2 or more files.

  13. what about splitting an xvid film though. Virtual dub won't work is there anything else that could work?

  14. You can either use any editing software such as Ulead Studio,Adobe Premiere e.t.c. or encode to MPEG with MPEGEnc and split it.
By the way, VirtualDub should work with XVID. Do you have any error message ?

  15. Xvid doesnt work for me either, basically says cannot find decompressor and directshow something or other used by windows is not acceptable..I guess i just need to find another xvid codec right?

edit: never midn, im sorted now, although i may have another problem but we'll see..

  16. Try removing your XVID codec first, and then install different one.
Also, try GSpot to determine the real codec.
