  1. Ive got two different movies in SKVCD format. I have tried playing both on my many dvd players and the result on the stand-alones is that every 5 seconds or so there is a blank in the audio, but the video appears fine. On my pc no audio is detected at all.

Any ideas of what causes this? I burned it in SVCD format, but maybe Ive done something wrong.

  2. was the SVCD standard, compliant???

i.e. in Nero, there's a check box next to "make standard, compliant disc" that needs to be checked....

    ----------

does your DVD player support SVCDs and xSVCDs at all??? https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

you may end up having a non-standard, compliant xSVCD...so, you need to make sure your DVD player can handle the max bitrate you're using

    --------

btw, in TMPGEnc, did you downsample your audio from 48 Khz->44.1 Khz (audio tab)?? and you enabled 3:2 pulldown in tmpgenc, right (video tab)??

Very simply all of the templates at www.kvcd.net, including the SKVCD templates are not strictly VCD or SVCD compliant. They actually create XVCD's or XSVCD's. Your DVD player "may" only support VCD's and SVCD's that are in precise compliance with those standards. Templates from www.kvcd.net are not in compliance with the VCD or SVCD standards.
