  4. So are you making a backup of a DVD and wanting to put menus into the existing DVD before reburning it to disk again?

I ask because you didn't really say exactly what your trying to do and I am abit confused. SInce this is DVD to DVDR forum, like making a backup copy of a disk, but you refered to it as making a movie like it's a new one from scratch.

Basically a DVD Authoring program takes your files and converts them to DVD format files. Many/most programs will/should/or probably will let you create menu's. You can look in the how to guides to the left and see if any of your programs are listed, or maybe look in the tools section, there might be a link to one of the programs you have and you can get more info what the program does from thier site too.

I think Tmpgenc DVD Author is a very good program. Free fully working demo for 30 days. It is very easy to use and will let you make menus. I use it for makng DVDs from captured movies in mpeg2 format. It is suposed to be able to use DVD files too, though I have not tried that yet myself.
Though it is very easy to use and for me is working great, it seems to have many extra options like motin menus and letting you add your own images for menus as well as selecting any scene in the movie for a menu picture and a few other things I still have not tried yet.

Two best things to do are probably post what software you have and what your trying to do in more detail and also look through the stuff at the left like guides, tools, faq and such also. You might find info on your software, I think nearly everything is covered!

  5. Yeah i should of went in to a bit more detail...

Well any how when i back up my movies i just do movie only as im not that bothered about the extra features.

when i went to watch star wars 2 the other day i just wantede to watch the part where yoda has the fight & it took me forever to skip throgh all the chapters.

So i was wondering if there was a way to make my own simple menu to either play the whole film or to select which chapter i wanted to go to.

i think i got a reauther program whith dvd writer (nero express & power suite)

it would be great if people give me through views on maken menus.

cheers overloade im goin to look at the tmpg 1 now

    Yes. From their website...

The newest features in TMPGEnc DVD Author

    1. Can create "Motion menu" that uses movie clips as source
It is possible to create a menu with motion using a video clip as source like in commercial DVD. Motion menu can be used for not only the menu background but also the menu picture.

  9. I have not tried much of the more advanced features yet, but Tmpgenc DVD Author is supoposed to do motion menus, and (I think) let you add your own images also.

Now here is something I am not positive about, but THINK I am correct, Worth a try.

I noticed when scanning through a movie the other night for a chapter pic, I am not locked into the chapter, I can scroll the whole movie to get that pic I want. Also, it looked like the cut scenes were still available in the movie as I scanned through it
Now what I am thinking if it works, is for a motion menu or still pic I could use a scene I have cut from a movie. Thus, it is only availible in the menu. I discovered this while in a hurry to get a tapped theatre play onto DVD for the cast so I have not tried doing anything with it yet.

Also, the menu's I did make were lost when I shrunk the DVD files to fit a disk. 2hr tape was actually recorded 2hr 30minutes when I captured it and the mp2 was 6gigs! Goes to show, if you can, always CHECK! Tape was supposed to be recorded in SP and already had 15mintues on it I did not need. So should only been 145 minutes record time. How did it come out 2:30 on a 145minutes worth of tape?

Dvd Author did let me make a 6 gig DVD, after a warning I ignored. I then shrunk that to fit the disk using DVD2ONE, but lost my menu's although I did still have chapter points to skipp though the movie still. Then I used Tmpcgenc DVD Author again to burn the -R DVD.
It works perfectly on the pc, my Norcent DP300 player, and a friends VHS DVD combo unit ( I don't know the brand).

My disks also worked on a ALEGRO vhs dvd dual Unit this summer that I had made with Tmpgenc DVD Author version one which disk not then suport burning, so they were burned with Nero.

Yes. When you are in the Create Menu page, double click in menu background area and browse to your file.

Seeing how you like to do movie only DVDs, you can set your First Play Action dropdown menu in TMPGenc DVD Author to "Play All Tracks". You can then access your menu anytime using your Menu button on your remote.

  12. Cheers for the info DoubleShadowIce.

Can you help me a little bit more Please, can you make your own menu or do you have to use the one that are on there?

All i want my menu to do is Play movie or go to a chapter selection screen any idea on which one i should use?

I kinda like the look of the Double Track 1.
But i would like it more if it said Play Movie instead of Play All Tracks & it seems this is the only menu where you can not change that part of the written.

  13. O.k Just tried out DVD lab

i can do the menus just plain & simple like how i like it but the problem is i can not load up my film or nothing else with this program i'm finding it really difficult & the guides for this are not straight forward at all they just tell you crap about motion menus & stuff.

TMPGenc is brillent the way the whole thing is so simple. but the menus it have are just plain crap

So is there a program that is like TMPGEnc that is simple to load the film into but lets you do i bit more with the menu's????????????
