  1. Ok..
I've tried a couple of photo slide shows with music as well as some video editing with this program. I'm using the NTSC DVD format in the project properties. When I'm done editing I create the .mpg video file...the .mpg file plays great on the computer. However, when i burn the dvd through Ulead it cuts out the audio...the video looks great, but there is no audio.

What am i doing wrong? I've also tried to burn the dvd using the .mpg file i created in ulead but every program (easy cd & nero) tells me that it is an invalid format...

    Your help is greatly appreciated

  2. Is the audio file DVD compliant, i.e. 48hz? If not that might be what the burning software is barking at, and why the DVD player may not be playing it.

  3. what are examples of dvd compliant audio, and how would I change this setting?

    Thanks!

  4. When you go to save the video check the options and see what your Audio is set to. It should be 48Khz for DVD. Also when you burn it make sure to check the "do not convert compliant video" option.

  5. Before I edit, I always prepare my source clips to match the properties of my Ulead VideoStudio 7 project settings.

For example, I shoot video with my DVD camcorder - the Panasonic VDR-M30.

At highest (Xtra) quality setting, the MPEG recorded by this camcorder has the following properties:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 704 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order B
    (DVD-NTSC), 4 : 3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8800 kbps)
    Audio data rate: 256 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

This is my cue to set my project settings to *match.*

Then - if I add any audio - I make sure the audio is converted before import to *match* the project settings.

Then I create my DVD... and all is well.

  6. I've noticed this problem as well. If you try and use TmpGEnc to de-multiplex the MPEG file, there's no audio stream (as far as TmpGEnc is concerned).

It seems to me, you shouldn't have to do anything to your assets before importing into VS7. That's what you're using it for: to take all of your disparate assets, edit them together, and convert to a DVD-compatible format.

One must properly prepare one's souce media PRIOR to import into an editing project.

    This is a fundamental necessity.

Disparate assets are the #1 cause of re-rendering, missing audio, and output glitches.

    Garbage in = garbage out.

Clean, properly-prepared source files = success.
