  1. I have just purchase a Sony miniDV Camcorder and the software that came with it is pretty limited (Pixela - ImageMixer v1.5 for Sony). I notice the play back with the tape is very clear and clean, but when I make a AVI or MPG with the 640x480 capture size, it is either jerky, or the pixels are very visible. Another words, not like the MiniDV tape playback.

My Questions, How can I capture the video to be as clear and clean as the tape?

What program would I need to purchase or download?

What is the best capture settings?

Also, I am using USB 2.0 as an interface, not IEEE 1394. Is that a major difference?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...!

Although they say USB 2.0 captures more data than fire wire, I cannot find a program that can capture with the same clarity as fire wire can. I use Video Studio to capture my firewire.

Anyway, this picture comes from a fire wire captured video of a Mexican dancer I took this Sunday at a dance festival I went to.

  3. I would use firewire. Then I don't have to worry about any setting/s.

I have a Sony MiniDV camcorder and use Pinnacle Studio 8.5 for capturing via firewire.
The dvd's I produce, in my opinion are flawless although I only use Studio for capturing and editing, I use TMPGEnc for encoding (just because I love it).
People here complain about Pinnacle but I ove it, for me it produces superb quality and effects.
