    Hi all !

I have this avi movie which DivX 3 low-motion @ 720x342 & MPEG-1 Layer3 audio (so says Gspot) and I wish to burn it as VCD. Since TMPGenc does not support mp3 audio, I would get the video but no audio as is.

I downloaded [SCMPX.exe - MPEG Audio layer-I,II,III stream Player, converter] which can be used as external program for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 encoder in TMGGenc.

I tested the TMPGenc / SCMPX setup [Audio stream setting/Stream type set as MPEG-1 Layer 3] for the first 3 mn of the movie. Even though there was a SCMPX encoding at the start of the conversion process, still no audio in the output file.

Q : Am I using SCMPX incorrectly ? Should I be using it beforehand & independently of TMPGenc ?
Q : What does [Mpeg split (Video CD is not supported)] (SMCPX feature) mean ?

Note : I finally used Virtualdub to extract a wav file so I solve my pb with that particular movie but I still wish to know how to use SCMPX within TMPGenc.

    Thanks.

Mpeg 1 layer three is a an .MP3

cetrainly you could use any number of programs to convert it to WAV and then submit it to TMPG

    Audio Catalyst
    Ez Cd Creator
    Sound Forge
    Goldwave
    Winamp (?)

many others will convert this file

Sorry I can't expain the plug-in to TMPG
    but maybe others can...

Should one use a separate audio file if possible or stick to one single video/audio source ?
btw, which is best : wav or mp2 as a separate audio file ?

WAV will be better cause its not compressed

MP2 is another kind of MPEG compression..so with it you gotta take compression off, re-apply--then take off and re-apply again

    VERSUS 2x for the wave

First of all TMPGEnc supports mp3,mp2,wav and even ac3.If TMPGEnc won't allow audio multiplexed with the video then go to File>MPEG Tools>Simple De-mux and try seperate video and audio(AVI-mp3).If TMPGEnc still refuses to accept audio Simple Multiplex the files, that way you will have a file with an MPG extension.

The VCD spec does not support .mp3, only .mp2
it is unlikely your DVD player will play a VCD with .mp3 audio.
