  1. i want to order some quality media froim rima.com, but have no ide what the differences are between this media....
theres the BeALL in the blue cake box with a label, the optodisc with gold and blue labels, the DupEZ and samsung both have a silver top, and a white top that are different prices....
    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=R&Category_Code=DM

i want to stay away from princo and ritek as i have had really bad experiences with both.. maybe the ritek was a bad bathch, i dont know but i want to try something else.
so of those options what looks to be the beast option? and could someone explainn the differences between the same brand, but white and silver top?
i saw others discussing the DupEZ i think how the silver top were LD's and the white tops were sony, or something of the sort....
    thanks alot for any help

  3. yeah, but 2 discs of each brand is not a good amount of discs to make a fair judgement on.
im looking for someone with experience with these to shed some light on it.

  4. You should try to search before posting. All of the disks you mentioned here have been discussed countless times as well as compared in the same threads.

Just a quick piece of info on those disks you mentioned though.... the Samsung DVD-R disks are of higher quality and compatibility then the DVD+R BEALL's..although both are solid disks. The Optodisks are also great disks, and have a nice deep purple dye which allows them to be very compatible with various standalone players.

The DUPEZ disks are Lead Data and are of good quality...but not nearly as high quality as the BeALL's or the Gold Topped 4x Optodisks.

The DUPEZ also have a lighter purplish dye which prevent them from being as compatibile as the other two. If money is an issue..go with the DUPEZ...if not...I suggest the BEALL DVD-R's first and the Optodisk 4x disks a very close second.

You did mention color of the disks...the gold topped optodisks are 4x...and apparently of a higher quality then the 2x optodisks...although I have not personally used the 2x...i'm only going by what I read.

The Beall's on the other hand are excellent quality @ both 2x and 4x. I have tried them both and both work wonderfully.

  5. thanks for the help defense. i did alot of searching, but i got confused when people were talking about different batches, and companies using different types of disks for different batches and types.. like a samsung white top, and silver top. i wanted to make sure they were the same type of disks ya know. i read the DupEZ silvers were LD's and the white tops were sony. i was just trying to confirm some of this info. i havent tried anything but princo, but im getting sick of these quickly...
thanks, and any info is greatly appreciated.

  6. the optodisc gold top and blue top say general and branded respectively. i think theyre both 1x discs cause theyre both $.82 a disc each.
is there ana dvantage as far as samsung and dupeez go to get the printable white tops over the silver tops? i will not be printing any tops for them so im not concerned about that, i just want to make sure the discs are the same kind....

As far as the white top vs silver top..that's just a personal preference. As far as the white tops being SONY and silvers being LD...that isn't true. It was thought that was the case at one time...but some posters from Rima posted they purchased the white tops and those too were Lead Data's. I have received from cdrdvdrmedia silver top SONY's and White Topped Sony's...and if it weren't for 4x media being so cheap now...I would of purchased at least another 100 pack spindle...because those disks were amazing...especially for the price.

Now, as far getting the white top ink jet printable disks over the silver topped...no...if you aren't printing there is no reason to get the white topped disks. As a matter of fact, if you are going to be labelling your DVD's like me..with a DVD certified marker...then you'll notice that the white tops are rough and will "frizz" out the marker quickly. While the silver tops are smooth and usually coated so you will get a nice, smooth surface to write on.

If the disks you are looking at are 1x disks...MOST of the time you can get them to burn @2x...depending on your burner...get the latest updates on the Pioneer and Sony burner if you have those and you should be able to burn those @2x with no problem.

And as far as Princo goes....it's all numbers...apparently Princo is always changing their dyes they use so it's hit or miss on what you get with them. I wouldn't go near Princo...most people have had horror stories...but with everything...there is the exception and you will here people say they've never had issues with Princo disks...I just personally would never purchase a Princo disk.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Go with samsung beall dvd-r disk. I have had 100% sucess with them and I have burn well over 100 disc. I too have bad experiences with princo, ritek, optodisc gold top 1x from supermedia.com. Samsung beall is the best. It works well with my panasonic e30 as well as pioneer 105.

  9. so the beAll'a are samsung?
thanks for the help guys i just ordered a 100 pack samsung, a 100 pack BeALL, and a 50 pack optodisc gold top from rima. i had great luck with princo's in the past, but im staying away from now on. i usually use princo dvdrw's - for my backups, but i had at least 15 bad out of 100 in this last pack i bought. they had bad sectors, and couldnt be erased or anything. just trashed.
i hope i dont get the famous ink going bad after a short time seeing as how i have a lot of stuff backed up on them and would hate to lose all that money....
it sounds like samsung may be my choice, but ill wait till i try them...
thanks for your guys patience on im sure the most asked question there is.
im a bulk buyer, so they have to be good quality 8)

what do you mean by "ink" going bad after a short time? Are you talking about writing on the disks with a permanent marker? If so, that's just a myth...you could put the DVD in the oven and that ink wouldn't melt off.....just make sure you get one of the "markers" which say either certified or approved or official DVD marker...because those are not alcohol based and dry within seconds.

Some people "CLAIM" to have issues with "SHARPIE" permanent markers seaping through their disks and causing playback issues...but I have only heard rumors of this and never read a post where a poster said it happened to them.

  12. well i got my dvd's today, and checked to see the media id on all of them..
the samsungs are BeALL's ... and the BeALL's are BeALLS.. they both have the same media id... therye the same light purple dye color.. the gold top optodisks are recognized as optodisks and are a dark purple dye.
i hope this isnt the same dye as the riteks cause i had horrible luck with the ritek g03's... i dunno why cause everyone else seems to love them, but my pioneers burners dont like them...
im trying the optos now, so well see....
as far as the samsung and BeALL's are concerned.... it doesnt really matter which one i buy now does it seeing as how therye the same?
therye practically identical in price too. $118, and $115 for the samsung and BeALL's respectively....
