  7. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS ASKING OF YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

You see where it says you have tag 2000, that signifies that you have AC3 audio, which is extremely lucky for you! That means, that you can use this as the audio on your DVD, and it is Dolby Digital 5.1. You need to get VirtualDubMod, and demux the sound from your AVI. Then, frameserve only the video, and then author a DVD using the output video from TMPGEnc and the audoi you demuxxed fro VDubMod. GOOD LUCK!

When you use the resize filter in VDub to frameserve, set it to have newwidth 720 and newheight to 460. Then, check the box that says Expand frame and letter box. In here, set the Frame width to 720 and the frame height to 480.

When you encode in TMPGEnc, make sure you set it to have 16:9 output (Widescreen). Your all set to go!

  9. To extract the audio, go to Streams -> Streams list. There, click Demux, from there it's pretty self explanatory.

To frameserve only video in VDubMod, since I'm to lazy to figure out how to set it to serve video only, I do a regular frameserve, but tell TMPGEnc to make a Video only file, and it accomplishes what I need.

To open the resize filter go to Video -> Filters. Click Add... There, select the resize filter and double-click it. Using the information I provided in my previous post, just plug it in, since I used the same words that the field's names have to refer to the settings, respectively.
My AVI -> Any Format Guide is available here.
My Frame Resize Calculator (enhanced for Virtualdub) is available here

  11. oh yeh, but which program do you use to burn your dvd, i take it you use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author your dvds..

  12. actually, i got the m2v video down, but once i demux the audio into ac3, what do i do with it, with what programs etc

  13. The m2v (video) and ac3 (audio) files need to be authored (see the Author guides to the left), you then burn the VIDEO_TS folder. There are several authoring programs out there. Freeware wise if all you want is a movie on DVDR IFOEdit can do this (no menus, extras, etc).

Most people want more than that thou. DVD Lab (fully functional 30day trailware) and TMPG author are popular choices. IIRC both are like $79. Dollar for dollar DVD Lab is the best IMHO. Ulead also has two products that can author. DVD Maestro and Scenarist are used by 'the pros' but cost a lot (I was able to buy a used copy of Maestro from a business that went TU). Adobe's encore is coming out soon and sounds pretty nice.

  14. @funkguy - i have made numerous avi's (both divx and xvid) to dvd the way i do it is to load the avi into goldwave and save the wav. Use the dvd template using the avi as the video source and the wav file just created as the audio source. What are the benefits over what i do to frameserve the video?

  15. If resizing is all you do, none (TMPGenc can do this for you). But VDub allows you to add other filters that TMPGenc does have. BTW - if you're authoring DVDs I would encode the wav (PCM) audio to ac3 as it takes up much less space. That'll allow you to raise your video bitrate some (assuming your not at the DVD max to start with).

  16. aright, thats what i thought i should be doing...i used the m2v file for the video and the ac3 for the audio in TMPGEnc DVD Author, but when it created the folders the video folder had its files in it but the audio folder had nothing in it...?
