I have been trying for days to edit a trilogy of movies into a single movie by cutting out, what I consider to be, unnecessary material. However I am at my wits end because TMPGEnc DVD Author (TDA) will cut out the bits that I don't want and burn the remainder very nicely onto a disc that plays in DVD ROM. However when I try to play this disc in a stand alone DVD player there is a slight pause in between every joint in the movie. When I look back on the frames through TDA I can see that TDA has added a white/transparent frame between all the joints that I have made. This does not affect the movie when played on a PC because they appear to be ignored, but in a stand alone player the interpretation must be different somhow and thus the endless pauses in the movie which last for a fraction of a second. I have tried to cut out these frames by editiing the movie again but that means that I also have to remove the frame either side of it and would mean editing the movie for a 2nd time.
TMPGENC Express does not do this when editing but the software will not re-encode the 6 channel audio which I really want to keep.
DVD lab is useless because it doesn't have an edit option.
ULEAD VIDEO Studio editing suite supports 5.1 but the editing facility is so cumbersome and the finished audio plays back in slow-mo whilst the movie is in real time!!!
I have tried ripping the audio stream from the edited version, running the edited version through TMPGExpress to get rid of the jonts and then re-muxing the two but the audio ends up out of sync.

So basically does anyone know how I can solve the TDA problem. Could it be connected with the fact that TDA advises that the bitrate of the movie is 9800kbs video with 448kbs audio which together exceed the bitrate for a DVD and which I chose to ignore. If this was the problem then why isn't the original DVD affected because it is in the same format and was manufactured to be played on a home DVD player??
If not is there any software that allows a video with 6 channel dolby to be edited in situ without the need to demux, remux, timestretch etc, etc................which will also output a DVD compliant movie with it's sountrack still in sync???

I think this can be fixed by removing the chapter point TDA will(?) put at the spot where you cut.
mad.gif DVD lab is useless because it doesn't have an edit option.
As editor it's useless, yes, as it isn't an editor. OTOH, it one helluva authoring app. You just have the wrong expectations. Basically the DVD creation process is to first have your audio and video exactly like you want it, then start your authoring app.

Finally, this is how I did it....

STEP 1 - Import DVD files into ULEAD 11 and adjust settings to 5.1 dolby.
STEP 2 - Edit the video. The process is cumbersome unlike editing in TMPG DVD Author where you can quickly forward through the movie at the click of a button. ULEAD offers only a timeslide which is difficult to control at times. However the means justifies the end!!!
STEP 3 - Once you have your edited movie(s) you can insert any effects that you want and alter the audio levels if you wish.
STEP 4- Select either MAKE VIDEO or MAKE DVD, doesn't matter which cos TMPGENC DVD Author (which you will use next) will accept both. Start the render and leave it for 1 - 2hrs depending on the file size and CPU you have.
STEP 6- Close ULEAD and open TMPGENC DVD Author. Import your newly made MPG2 or DVD video. If the film/file size is greater than your DVD medium (4.7GB or 8.5GB) go to STEP 7 else go to STEP 9.
STEP 7 - My file was 10.5 GB and TMPG will not author a file that large. It will terminate when it has encoded about 9GB. Strange but true. Therefore split your file into two or more separate segments by using the cut feature in TMPG Author and encoding each segment separately into it's own VIDEO_TS directory.
STEP 8 - Once all segments have been split and re-encoded with TDA, import the respective files either one at a time or all at once into DVD shrink and shrink them so that when all are joined back together the total file size doesn't exceed either 4.7GB or 8.5GB depending on your medium. For example my 10.5 GB file was split into 2 and re-encoded to a max file size of about 4GB each. When joined together the total size was 8.2GB leaving me with a bit of room for menus etc which I added using TDA.
STEP 9 - Close DVD Shrink and open TDA again. Import your shrunken VOB's and hopefully this time TDA will encode them all as one file that doesn't exceed it's in-built parameters. Add chapters and menus now if you want and burn away...................

It amazes me that after searching endlessly for ways to edit my movie an all in one solution, manufactured for the home camcorder market beat all the AVI2DVD, VirtualDub, BeSWEET, DVD LAB and all the other geeky software that is supposed to be better than the commercially available software.
