  2. Hey Andrew,

There aren't any native transitions in Premiere that will do exactly what you want. It can, however, be done. Create a new "Black Video" in your project and put it on the B track under where you want the fade to start. Pick the dissolve transition and place that on the transition track between your video segment and the black video. That will get you the fade-to-black. To make a fade-to-white transition, simply create a BMP of pure white (RGB 255,255,255) in the correct dimensions (whatever your project settings happen to be), add it to your project and follow the F2B procedure substituting the white BMP for the black video. It's just that easy!

Depending on your target playback device, you may need to use an "off-white" color for the white BMP. Something like RGB 224, 224, 224. Intense white makes TV's really blast the white balance and can distort the picture. Computer monitors handle that somewhat better.

    Hope this helps.

  3. You can do that or there is another option.

You can use alpha channels as the transition. I like them better. I also think that you have more control over the transition.

    Just my thoughts!

  4. How do you "create a new 'black video'"? I have Premiere 5.1 and the only way I found to get that was Project>Create>Color Matte, and make a color matte in black, then lay it on the video track in the timeline and stretch it to the length I wanted. It has worked for me and I can transition to and from it like a video clip and key graphics over it. But, is there another way to do it? Is it something that's in a later version of Premiere than I have, or have I overlooked it?

Try File > New> Black Video. You can adjust the duration to suit your needs. I'm using Premiere 6.5 now, but I think it worked the same way on earlier versions.
