Just so you know, I personally dont believe that it is worth the time and effort to rip any old DVD to (S)VCD nor to even back them up to DVDR. The reason? There isnt enough good movies out there to justify doing this let alone even owning the original. I am as much a video fan as the next guy, but c'mon, Hollywood has not put out many movies that I can watch over and over and over again. So why own or copy them?

That being said, here is my list of top 10 movies worthy of owning of devoting time to copy and that I have seen many times.

    1.) Terminator 2
    2.) Indiana Jones Series
    3) Lord Of the Rings Series
    4.) Original Star Wars Series
    5.) Good Fellas
6.) Star Trek - First Contact & Wrath of Khan
    7.) Alien
    8.) Gladiator
    9.) Matrix
    10.) Pulp Fiction

** And honorable mention to Eagles - Hell Freezes Over DVD. The single best music dvd on the planet bar none. **

  14. I'm only picking real DVD's NOT imports.

    Matrix
    Star Trek 2
    Star Trek 6
    Alien
    Aliens
    Goodfellas
    The Godfather
    Casino
    Batman
    Them

How about your least favorite dvd that you just happen to own.

For $20 I bought Enemy of the State that was a dual pack with Pearl Harbor. I liked Enemy of State, so I took a chance. I use Pearl Harbor as a door stop. Why do we need a love story to make the events of Pearl Harbor watchable.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  19. This is tough, but the criteria that tygrus2000 put was movies that you'd watch again and again. There are some that I consider better than these, but I wouldn't want to watch them again and again (Clockwork Orange, Schindler's List and Blue Velvet come to mind)

Enough lip-flapping, here they are in the order that I tought of them and typed them in:

    Apocalypse Now
    Blade Runner
    The Godfather
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
    The Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
    The Wizard of Oz
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Gone with the Wind
    Amadeus

    An American President
    War of the Worlds
    Everything StarGate SG-1

  21. I think VidKid hit it on the head -- have to be movies you'd watch again and again.

There are lots of terrific movies in the world that I *never* particularly want to see again ("Memento" and "Sixth Sense" are two that immediately leap to my mind -- nowhere near as fun after you've seen them once). There are also quite a few "guilty pleasures" I have that, although not what I'd even consider three star movies are movies that are just plain fun to watch over and over.

    That said:

Terminator 2 (was there ever a more perfect action film?)

Jaws (Spielberg at his best with manipulating audiences -- better than E.T. because of the superior cast)

OHMSS (The best James Bond film ever made. Period. Not, however, the best James Bond -- and those who are fans understand me perfectly).

Galaxy Quest (One of the most underrated comedies out there, this is also a terrific SF film in its own right)

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (The absolute best film of both Martin and Candy's career, and one that never fails to bring tears of laughter to my eyes at the car rental scene)

GroundHog Day (Unlike Murray's day, we *like* seeing this happen again and again)

Little Mermaid (the most perfect Disney animated film of all time. "Aladdin comes close, but with a gun to my head I have to go with the redhead).

Lord of the Rings: FOTR (obviously TT ain't out yet, but this one I can watch again and again)

Aliens (Geeze, does Cameron get *two* top ten films and Speilberg only one? But it's hard to argue with this terrific gut retching action film)

Toy Story (3D animation at it's best, with two superstars providing a whole lot of laughs).

Honorable mention (Special Edition only available on laser disc or it would be right up there bumping out another film) "1776". My wife and I watch this terrific musical every July 4th. If it didn't happen this way it should have.
