  1. Hello all. I am trying to DVD2SVCD a movie that has scenes where they speak in a non-english language and there are translation subtitles in English. I have yet been able to get the subtitles to show when playing on standalone DVD. As I mentioned, I am using DVD2SVCD. I read about using Vobsub, but can I incorporate its output into DVD2SVCD. thanks for any help.
No, it came with the frame.

  2. Those subtitles are stored as a subtitle stream on the DVD, and the IFO files turn them on by default. So when you backup your DVD to SVCD you need to select that subtitle stream.

Although you can encode a SVCD with selectable subtitles (SVCD or CVD) I suggest just making permanant subtitles:

    1) Click on the subtitles tab
    2) Check the 'Rip Subtitles' box
    3) Choos 'permanant subtitles'
    4) Subtitle Lang1 choose the correct/desired stream

Normally there will be two subtitle streams on DVDs like this. One with forced subtitles (that are actually part of the movie). And another with 'full' english subtitles (ie. like closed captioning). Make sure you choose the correct one.

Due to the way the DVD standard is setup the force stream might not even be called english (on Traffic for example the forced subtitles were contained in the 'french' stream).

You can use a program like IFOEdit, DVD Tools, etc. to determine which stream you need.

  3. First thanks for reply. Second. I ripped just a chapter of movie with the forced subtitles in it and now have the ifo file opened in ifoedit. How/Where do I looked to find the stream where the forced subtitles are.
No, it came with the frame.
