I recently downloaded an SVCD film and when I run it in Windows Media Player, I get this horrible green blotchy green that does my head in.

I have installed all the codecs you can imagine.

    From xvid

    nomic

    slc

I even tried ffdshow, tmpengc and some others and still no luck.

I feel as if there is no more hope.......Can anyone please give me a solution so I can sit back relax and enjoy the film

    Thank You

  2. It's probably an mpeg-2 file. try viewing it with a DVD software player such as windvd or powerdvd. or maybe divx5 or one of the xvid.

  6. The problem is, that you, like you said, installed every possible codec! Your system is now confused and tries to decode with the wrong codec. You have to uninstall everything and then re-install, starting with the Xvid-codec, which is, sorry to say, very sensitive to the adding of other codecs and produces a horrible green screen when it has a conflict with other codecs. So, install that one first and try your movie. if it still won't work, add another codec, like mp2 or divx, and try again. When the movie can be played, stop installing, and try the different codecs you installed with some movies in that format.
    Cheers,

    Richard

  9. I was having the same problem with a LOTR AVI, it worked before I just did a format and re-install of XP, I then dl'd nimo, avi-codec, divx5, and another one and suddenly my movie was green????

So I did what that above person suggested, removed thme all one at a time, trued, and finally after nimo being the last one.. it worked

I hope all my other vids still work

    Good luck

  10. Have you tried using gspot from the tools menu to determine EXACTLY what codec/codecs you need
    If it's wet, drink it

    Gspot
    ...but your first post says:
I recently downloaded an SVCD film
... GSpot is only good for AVI's, but on the other hand:
If it's really SVCD, then it's mpeg2, and the player for those are DVD players, like PowerDVD, and they come with their own codecs. It has nothing to do with XviD, ffdshow or anything else.

Never found that any AVI codecs would interfere with mpeg1/2 codecs. They seem to be in no way related, at least not on my system - been having all sorts of problems with AVI (being stupid/gullible enough to install Nimo 8...) on and off, but mpeg decoding has never failed me.
Sounds like the mpeg is really corrupt and beyond rescue.

  15. I had a SVCD and used ISOBUSTER to extract the MPG file. I then used TMPGEnc to Multplex it from MPEG2 to MPEG1 as explained in the guide for the VCD Header trick. When I played the converted file on my computer I had a green screen. Is this because of a problem with a CODEC not being installed? Will it play correctly on a DVD player? Can I cause any damage to my DVD player if I play a VCD using the non-standard VCD 2.0 format?

Use fourCC changer and then post back to say 'bejesus, it worked'

    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifourcc.html

copy and paste your file to the desktop, import it into the 4CCchanger and then type 'divx' into the bottom pane and away you go

First when you got the source file are you sure that it was mpg format? It wasn't a bin, iso or something like that?
How do you know that the file is in SVCD format? What is the resolution of the file?
Do you have Nimo Codec Pack Installed?

I'm pretty sure it will be OK when burned, It's worth a try.
Whoever encoded to Mpeg2 might have done so from an XviD, I can't be very specific I'm afraid except I know that 'green' is an issue with XviD!.
Nero will overburn your file as long as the options are set up properly.

    G' luck

I am proud to say that I have gotten rid of the green screen by simply burning the cue file using nero

Running it straight from the hard drive newbies may cause you problems.

I want to thank all you guys for providing help and tips to me when I was going through all these problems.

I now watch clean quality svcds

  26. go here and download the filter for xvid and get rid of the green. Then you can play the movies from your drive without any problem.
