How to remove chapter pointers

I have merged 2 DVD's into one with VOBedit and IFOedit however the result gives me too many chapter pointers (some even after 1-5 sec.). Is there an easy way to remove some of the pointers, but leaving the others. I have searched the forum but couldn't find an answer, only other people facing more or less the same problem. Thanks!

I said chapter pointers, but I mean cell pointers. I tried many things, incl. IFOedit, create new IFO files with 1 chapter and 1 cell... split again with DVD Shrink, but then DVD Shrink come into an error. From a lot of reading I understand DVD Maestro could do the trick. Who can confirm this or advise an even better alternative. Many thanks.
