  1. I've done a bit of research and testing re this but can't quite crack it,time as a busy father is scarce!

Basically i wish to create AVCHD discs for playback on blu-ray player from MKV files that are around 8gb in size.

I'm using 8.5gb discs so i can't exceed that size.

Therefore i want to convert WITHOUT increasing file size, happy to shrink it if required (a la dvd shrink) but without detectable quality loss, but ideally a straight conversion retaining original file size would be best .

Maybe i need to create an image file and burn straight to disc with img burn?

    Expert help please.

MultiAVCHD is the simplest method to ensure that the video is compliant (most MKV files have been cropped and have to be re-encoded with the correct letterboxing added), and authored correctly. The results can then be burned with imgburn.

If your video is already compliant (1280 x 720 resolution etc.) then you can use TSMuxer to create a standard AVCHD structure, but you get no menus.

  5. I'll add (as I did many times in the past) that tsMuxeR AVCHD-disc mode does NOT create 'standard' AVCHD structure. It creates Blu-ray structure (folder/file wise) with a minor change to index.bdmv and that doesn't make the output AVCHD compliant.

Try AVCHDCoder. Does everything you need.
