  1. Hello,

So I have this MPG file, and it is about 450 meg, and TMPGenc refuses to open it. I am using the newest version, and the file plays fine in every video program, but TMPGenc just refuses to take it...what should I do? (I am trying to convert it to DVD, and it did come from a VCD)

May be a bad file. Sometimes there is NOTHING you can do. Try to use MPEG Corrector. Be sure you have all the codecs installed.

I don't convert much from existing material.

When I have bad MPEG errors, it's usually from a bad capture. I recapture it and its fine.

Try simple things too. Reset your computer. Defrag the HD. Run a disc doctor. Maybe the file is there, but your system won't let it open up. These are computers after all.

  3. If the VCD video is PAL or NTSC at 29.97fps then you don't need to convert it for DVD. Just demultiplex and convert the audio to 48Khz, the author your DVD.

VCD video is DVD compliant and you will only lose some quality trying to convert it.

    Hope this helps.

You could do as bugster says( www.dvdrhelp.com/vcddvdr ).

If you anyway want to reconvert try increase the directshow priority in tmpgenc and reopen the vcd. www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgenc#problems .

you won't be able to open mpg file in the regular version of TMPGEnc, so you have to download a TMPGEnc mpg plugin. You can find this in the Tools section to your left, and it's under the
MPEG2 and MPEG1 (VCD,SVCD,DVD) Video Encoders heading it is the last program in that chart called TMPGEnc MPEG2 Plugin download it and try opening mpg file with it.

I'm not sure what version is but it works and it looks just like the TMPGEnc you are having, but this one will let you open mpg files.

Mine is now accepting mpeg2 files. In VFAPI plug-ins I had Ligos Mpeg2 decoder listed above Cyberlink Mpeg2 decoder. I unticked Ligos and it now works. Don't know how that one got in there.
