Was wondering about this since I've seen people do both.
Is there any difference or benefit to flat burning your VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS files to DVD versus creating a disc image and burning the .img?

I've burnt successfully with Nero, but have a potential issue, using the UDF 1.02 DVD-Rom settings... could be either media related or the set tops it is playing.

Just looking for another method of burning that may prove to be more compatible...

    thanks

Assuming your burning software does its job correctly than it shouldn't matter. Unfortunately, I don't Nero is completely compliant and alot of people have complained of compatibility problems with it. Personally, I think it in fact is more compatible to create an iso image using Imgtools and then burn with DVDDecrytor.

  3. I have never had a problem with an image. In truth for SVCD I prefer it.

I did have a problem with Nero. Some revisions are great some not. You have to keep it up to date.
I use to lossy B recorder that can with my burmer for free, if I want to burn directly.

Bottom line for DVD use what is compatable with your set top player.
    Neither is significantly better.

When do you you want to make an image?
When you have hundreds or thousands of files in your VIDEO_TS.
This way, the ISO makes up for the computer having to keep track of so many files!

How exactly do you convert a VIDEO_TS folder into an image (either .img or .iso) file? Can you guys tell me what software is needed and how to go about converting it? Thanks.

  6. Most people use IMGTools which is freeware and can be d/loaded from http://www.doom9.org that's what I do, and then burn with DVD Decrypter. There are a lot of reasons to make image files instead of using Nero's template. If you use VCDImager VCDs you get a 100% whitebook standard VCD, the same is true with DVD images.

Plus each verison of Nero is hit and miss. Some verisons work and some don't. And it's not always the newest verison that's the best. They release lots of new verions but for every bug they fix they introduce 2-3 more, often re-introducing old bugs

I just went to www.doom9.org and didn't see anything for IMGTools. I went to the download section and scrolled through the entire list. Could you give me an exact link? Thanks

  8. In the Downloads section you need to click on the "show full/main page" link (or something similar to that). It's the link that the last poster gave you. Doom9 doesn't allow direct linking to it's files so I can't give you the full url.

There are 3 different tools available. Which one is better and what are the differences between the 3. Does anyone know? Also, is there any type of guide that shows you step by step how to convert it, or is it VERY simple and self-explanatory. I appreciate all your help since i'm very new to all of this.

Please use IMG tools its the best of the 3

    if you don't have NERO

which says that a lot of the difference between ISO image formats is just differing propietary systems..Basically they all work and are the same inside ...ISO 9660 images with differing HEADER information...Basically there are ones that support LONG FILENAMES...and NOT
from NERO's WEB PAGEISO 9660 Standard Level

ISO 9660 is a standard that is readable in most operating systems (Macintosh OS, MS-DOS, Windows, UNIX). The standard limits the number of levels in the directory structure, and the length of filenames. Most data CDs conform to this standard. (A notable exception is the HFS format of some Macintosh CDs.)

Nero lets you choose between two versions of this standard:

ISO Level 1 allows only 8+3 filenames(eight characters plus a three-character suffix), in upper case. The only special character allowed is underscore ( _ ). Directory names may not include extensions. We recommend this level when the CD will be read in MS-DOS or Windows 3.1.

ISO Level 2 allows up to 31 characters fordirectory names and filenames. We recommend this level when the CD will be read in Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, and 2000.
