When i import a avi into VD(Virtualdub) i get a message saying that there is 6110ms (example with made in manhatten) of skew. So i carryed on as normal and found thats the audio is VERY out of sync when i did a sample tmpenc encode. Are there any tutorials ior guides dealing with XVid. I mean does the 6110 skew mean that the audio is 6s out if so where do i put the 6s to i stretch the audio file an extra 6 sec or put it in the middle of begining please HELP! (im going XVid to DVD)

That's your mistake right there. VBR audio needs to be handled different from regular audio, it's not the Xvid giving you problems.

Are you extracting a wav file from your source and using that as the audio input for your encoder? You should be, but you need Virtualdub-MP3 when the audio is VBR. Get VDub-MP3 from the Tools section, load your file, audio-full processing mode, compression-no compression, conversion-48KHz (DVD), save wav.

Alternatively you can use Goldwave, load your AVI,save.

right usually i'd just rip the audio from the avi as a wav then import it into tmpenc thingi with the avi and make an mpg but now i need to be ripping the audio to an mp3? then convert it to wav

No, if you get a VBR warning then your audio is already MP3 encoded using variable bitrate (VBR). Regular Vdub can't handle the conversion to wav, Vdub-MP3 can. Just use Vdub-MP3 for the avi to wav conversion.
