  1. How can I accomplish this? I have been trying for entirely too long with little success. The closest I have gotten is to use DVD Ripper Wizard and rip a MPEG-2 (using time segments ripping) and then trying to import it to Ulead DVD Workshop 2 Trial. The quality of the video is great, but there is no audio attached. When i open the .mpg file with WMPlayer, it has audio. Whats the deal? Is there a better approach? PLEASE HELP!

The trial of DVD WS doesn't support AC3.

Simplest method - DVD Shrink in reauthor mode to rip segments you want. TDA to put them together as a single disc.

Remember, you cannot mix Aspect Ratios in the same titleset (all 4:3 or all 16:9), nor formats (NTSC, PAL)

  3. So far so good, except for the Aspect Ratio's. Can I convert one way or the other? Thanks

You can, but that involves demuxing the video, resizing it, adding borders or cropping image, then re-encoding. Better off keeping like with like.

  5. Gunslinger, you've been a big help! Thanks!

I have one more question though. I have authored one DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author but it doesn't have a very good menu editing function. Can I add an audio track to the menu? Is there another authoring program that has more functions (multiple audio tracks, better menu design etc.)? I know I can have one of the clips rolling with audio on the menu, but thats not my desire. Thanks for the help!

Oh, one more thing... can i import a menu into TMPG?

Sorry, one more thing... I downloaded Adobe's trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro and I really like the way it works. What would be the best way to backup scenes from my DVD's that can be imported and edited with this? I cannot seem to get the "burn" function to work, do you know if this is disabled with the trial? Thanks again

    From the top

    1. To get audio on a menu you in TDA you must author it with a motion menu - a video clip. Even if the clip is of a still image with the audio playing. Clumsy, but it's the only way.

    2. DVD Workshop 2 (Ulead) or DVD Lab Pro (Mediachance). DVDWS2 has a nobbled demo, DLP has a fully working 30 day demo. Both can do what you have listed and more.

    3. Haven't used Premiere Pro 2 - I use Vegas. Reportedly it can edit mpeg video out of the box. Use something like VOB2Mpeg to get the video from your ripped DVDs. I don't know what the restriction is on the burn option, sorry.
