    More information needed!

DVD uses MPEG-2. What do you have? You might want to look at 'What is' DVD to the upper left. <<<<<< That will tell you the DVD format. If you plan to produce a DVD, it has to adhere to that format.

Freeware. Depends again on what format you have to start with.

There are freeware encoders, freeware editors, freeware authoring programs. Cuttermaran is one freeware MPEG editor. Quenc is one MPEG freeware encoder. DVDAuthor GUI is one freeware DVD authoring program.

These are all in 'Tools'. All you have to do is look. There are also many guides to the left. <<<<<<

    Or to restate redwudz's words...

To make a "Video DVD" requires a bit more than "slap a file onto a DVD". The file must be in specific formats and so on. The link Redwudz pointed to will explain that to you.

Usually creating a video DVD has 3 steps...

First you get the files into the right format and size: MPEG2 is preferred, but MPEG1 may be acceptable. As your file is MPG, it's likely in the right format, though it may have to be resized. Most people start with AVI though, and that must be transcoded to MPEG2. This is where you do any cutting and editing as well.

Second step is assemble all the DVD-ready files into a DVD-ready image. This is also where you make various menus, add subtitles, alternate audio tracks, and that sort of misc. stuff.

Final step is to actually burn that image onto a recordable DVD.

Sounds like you're just missing the middle step. Download one of the "DVD Authoring" packages and they'll do it for you.
