  2. This thread discusses using EO Video to convert RMVB to AVI. The program can also convert to MPEG for DVD. Later in the thread talks about using AVISynth to read RMVB files.

I've used EO Video myself in the past and found it to be very buggy and limited in what it can do. And as for AVISynth, it works but if you have Real Alternative installed on your computer you can bypass AVISynth all together and save yourself the time and effort of encoding to AVI and then encoding to MPEG2 if you are familiar with TMPGEnc just set the "Video Source" to "All files (*.*)" and it will open Real Media files natively. Then you can encode directly to DVD compliant MPEG2.

RealAlternative+TMPGEnc leads to A/V sync problems when I convert RMVB files (if it can even open the RMVB file).

Yes, EO Video is a buggy program, it's slow and has black level problems. But it and the AVISynth method (you can open the AVISynth script with TMPGEnc so there's no need for an AVI intermediate) are the only tools that I find work without sync errors.

  5. I converted with River Past Video Cleaner to xvid and then used Tmpgenc. Took forever, but worked.

AVISynth going to VDub converted my RMVB files just fine.

AVISynth going to TMPGEnc worked pretty well too, just make sure you get the frame rate right and it should work well enough.
