Hello everyone.
![]()
I've looked through all of the forums related to this topic and I couldn't find an answer that would work for me. I tried using EOvideo and some other programs, but they don't work for .rmvb file. ONLY work for .rm files.
I have so many .rmvb files that I want to convert them to .mpeg so that I could burn them onto a VCD and watch on my standalone DVD player.
I've spent so much time search for an answer, but couldn't find one.
I hope somone here could help me with this one...

Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what RMVB file is, but I believe that it is a Real Media Player file and it is different from the RM files.

same here, couldn't find guides or way about converting rmvb, but I wanna convert mpeg and avi to rmvb. save space more than divx.
RMVB = real media variable bitrate, the new kinda compression format, I think rmvb would be the next generation vedio standard -
You guys sure about that name ? can you give me a click to download so I can check it out ? maybe i'll find some way to convert it as well.

Did you try the Real7time Converter? I've had luck with that with rm files in the past. I don't know if it will work with newer formats (if you didn't guess from the name, it's a Real 7 converter). Worth a try, maybe.

Could you provide a link for that program ? I couldn't find any operative links
If it's any good and free, I could add it to the guide

Actually I've tried using that program, but it doesn't work with .rmvb files. I think its only for .rm files.
No luck.... -

Have you tried to rename it to .rm ? Then test with EOvideo or something else.Originally Posted by g2k3000_3000Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

This is a new format to me.
At Real.com you download a Free encoder called Helix producer basic. Use this to create the .rmvb format file.
Do not know what can read this new format other than their player. -
RealVideo Variable Bit Rate File is what the extension is. There is almost nothing on the web regarding this format, other than the fact that it's Real's version of VBR encoded content. Welcome to the twentieth century

Searches for converters turned up almost nothing. You might try here:
http://www.parallelgraphics.com/products/moviemaker/
It says it will convert to this format, as well as AVI, MOV, etc, so it may be able to convert FROM as well. Worth a shot anyway.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -

anyway I have tried using Real.Helix.Producer.Plus.9.01
but when I wanted to convert avi or mpeg files to rmvb, the VBR option is non selectable (grey)
?? -
as far as i know, program like "Real Helix Producer" works simular with TMPGEnc, you can adjust the quality to make it as good as DIVX but have almost half the size. DVDrip usually is like 700mb but RMVB is 300-400mb.Originally Posted by gilhoy

Well, EO Video works for me. Tried several rmvb already.
Its a little slow but convert to vcd1 mpeg perfectly with sound - so far -.
I tried the software rm converter , it converts to avi only and then i use Tmpeg to convert to mpeg , the sound will not sync after the movie plays for 1/3 .
I use Eovideo 1.36 30 day trial verson.
Just rename the rmvb to rm. Eovideo will process it for you. -
not only rename to file, you gotta change the extention, use command prompt type, rename *.rmvb *.rmOriginally Posted by g2k3000_3000
anyway, I finally find the way to use Helix Producer to encode to VBR rmvb files

Is it possible for you to explain how you used Helix Producer to encode the rmvb files?Originally Posted by jack078

I use Helix Producer Plus all the time and the edit gui that comes with it to cut and paste clips (remove commercials etc...). I often capture straight to rmvb and get very good quality 2 hours vids for storage on 1 700 mb cd.
Helix will convert to rm or rmvb but not from rmvb to avi, mpeg or any other format.
Eovideo does convert from rmvb to mpeg or avi, I have used it many times. Under the file menu there is a extension manager that allows you to add the rmvb extension so that EOvideo will be able to find the file type.
I have had no problems converting files which I created using Helix and the rm9 codec. If you are having a problem and the source is downloaded it may be a problem with the file or you do not have the rm8 or rm9 codec on your system. There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
Have you ever came across a problem where the sound is totally off by like 2 to 3 seconds?Originally Posted by gll99

exactly, I was always thinking about how to burn some tv series to fewer disc with watchable quality. until I found some info about RMVB. now I can save like 800 mins tv series to one cd, kool!!Originally Posted by gll99
and yea, the RMVB movie is the same quality with DIVX while rmvb is only half the size. -
But the downside of the rmvb file is that you can't make a VCD out of it and you can't play in on a DVD player...

I have used EO Video to convert rmvb. Some rmvb files work; some not.Originally Posted by gll99

Hello,
rm / rmvb to mpeg - please use EO Video, it work great
mpeg to rm / rmvb - please use Helix Producer Plus 9
Some Reference:

Hello,
A remark:
For EOvideo to successful convert mpeg to rmvb, you need to
install RealOnePlayer 2.x (no more codec need)
If the rmvb file can be played with RealOnePlayer, EOVideo can
convert it, I tried many times.
