I am not sure what to call it, but in a movie I have downloaded, I converted to DVD and burned to a disc to play in my home player. It has what the people are saying in text on the screen and in french or some language I don't understand.
So, Can I follow the "How To" in the "Edit" section for removing text like for the hearing impaired to get rid of this on my next DVD I go to burn?
This next Movie is still in Xvid.AVI format.......which I will use VSO ConvertxDVD to convert and burn
Thanks for your help and patience,
Brent

If it's an Xvid or similar and there is no separate subtitle file, they are likely permanent and burned into the video. No way to really eliminate them.
A Xvid with separate subtitle files can be converted with ConvertXToDVD and the subtitles will then be selectable and you can turn them off.
Outside of putting a black bar over the permanent subs, not much you can do. -
Ok, I will see what happens when it finishes converting........should be about another 30 min to being done. It was dvd rip - Xvid.Avi - converting back to dvd,,,,,.............do I follow the article I was referring to?
Thanks! -
No. You need to find some guides on logo removal, because you are basically trying to do the same thing. MSU has a subtitle removal/delogo tool. However the results can be mixed. For some station logos you might have just a slight blur, for others you can get a cloud of dancing pixels. I would tell your friends to live with it, ot better yet, import the DVD so they can watch it without subtitles.

Gunslinger,......I pretty much understand what your saying about looking at guides for logo removal........but I don't understand how to import it and watch without subtitles. Is'nt that what I am trying to do? I am confused....
Thanks for your help

The MSU filter is for virtualdub. If the subtitles are embedded in the image, then the only way to remove them is to process the video through a filter, like the MSU removal filter, using a tool like virtualdub. This filter will attempt to replace the text with what it thinks is behind it in the image, by tracking pixels as they move either side of the text. It then uses interpolation to place the pixels where it thinks they would be if the text weren't there. Sometimes it is right, sometimes it isn't. You need to install virtualdubmod, put the VDF file into the plugins folder for virtualdub, load up your source video and have a play.
The catch is that you will have to re-encode the video, and ConvertXtoDVD cannot read virtualdubmod's frameserver.
I haven't been overly impressed by any of these filters when it comes to subtitle removal. Personally, I would just leave it be.Read my blog here.
