First off let me say I'm new to Vegas so I apologize if this is something fairly easy to do, I just haven't figured it out. I am going to make some video clips and I want to add text on the screen while the video is rolling. I was really inspired to do this when I saw History Rocks on the History Channel where they used historical video footage and songs from the time period, and then had text inserted explaining the historical significance throughout each piece. I want to do something very similar. Audio is figured out, I just need to know how to insert the text. Advice? Thanks!

Media Generators : There are basic text generators, and there are title generators.

Another approach is to create the text as long still images in .png format with a transparent background, then use Track Motion to scroll them up the screen.

    So many options . . . . . .

Thanks for the advice. I figured out an option in Vegas on my own, so hopefully this can help somebody else down the road. In Vegas, when you insert the text media, make sure its on it's own video track, and that's its on track 1. I tried it on track 3 (main video on track 1 and audio on track 2) which didn't work, but it did work successfully when I switched in to track 1.

When you work with Vegas, you have to think of the timelines as being like the old glass platters on an animation table. You look down from the top, and see through the top layers to the layers below. If a layer is not transparent (i.e. just video) then you see no further.
