  1. is it possible ?

i've searched through the VCD forum and haven't quite found an answer.

basically, i'm after putting two 41 minute TV episodes in XVID format on one 700mb VCD.

I either have size issues - each file is around 350mb, but when I add both of them in Roxio, the final disc size usually comes in arount 770mb, or I have time issues as the combined time of both episodes is over 80 minutes.

I use the roxio easy media creator 7(basic vcd edition) or nero 7, although I have read somewhere that I need to set nero 7 to ignore the standard compliance to overburn it properly so would that be in the right direction ?

i'm after doing it for my sister who has an ancient dvd player that she refuses to upgrade

any help would be greatly appreciated .. thanks .. and apologies if this has already been asked, but i didn't find it .. honest .

I assume you mean you are converting the Xvids to VCD (MPEG-1) format?

You could create a BIN/CUE image with VCDEasy or similar and Nero should be able to burn that as a image file in Mode 2. (In 'Recorder>Burn Image') When I made SVCDs, I got about 830MB on a regular 80min/700MB CD with no problems. No overburning is needed. Mode 2 leaves out the 'correction data' and frees up the extra space.

Overburning is risky as you are using a part of the disc that was meant to be kept free of data.

    And welcome to our forums.

So I gather you're trying to make an 82 minute VCD ?

This is quite possible, and is actually called an XVCD since it would not be a standard spec VCD. What you need to do is use a decent encoding software (such as TMPGEnc) to create your MPEGs using a standard VCD template, but lower the video bitrate (hint: use a bitrate calculator https://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm ) such that the files will fit.

Then when you burn, tell Nero to ignore standard compliance (otherwise it will want to re-encode to VCD specs). You should be able to put up to 800MB on a 700MB CD due to the way VCDs are burnt with a different type of error correction.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. first of all, thanks for both of your replies

yes, i'm trying to fit about 82 minutes of video onto a VCD so that it will play in my sister's DVD player.

I was half hoping there was a way of doing it by just adding the AVI file, as I do in Roxio for the single episode disk, but I think it's going to need me to convert both AVI files to MPEG format before I try anything else, so i'll kick that off and take it from there.

It'll take a few hours as my little self built PC will get tired out if it does anything too strenuous !!
