Best Buy has lowered the price of its Insignia-branded Blu-ray player by $30 to $199.In addition, Best Buy's web site says the Insignia Blu-ray player comes with a $100 coupon book inside the box which can be redeemed for Blu-ray movies at the store. (Note: Insignia is Best Buy's private label for numerous electronics.) The coupons effectively cuts the player's price to $99.

If the player itself was $99 I might buy it. I have no interest in buying any blu-ray discs but I would rent them from netflix.

And 32" flat screens are expected to drop to $399 in the next month or so.
Too bad there's so little worth watching -

Is it profile 2.0? Or does it at least have a firmware upgrade option?
It is nice to see price drops on the hardware finally.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Still not cheap enough for me yet. I'm waiting for the players to get in the $100 USD range. I'm not interested in Blu-Ray movies, just my own HD content. Since Sony's 2nd quarter profit is down 90%, it might happen sooner than you think.........................

$200 isn't cheap.specially when you can get a PS3 for $250 from sonystyle.com ($150 off when you apply for their visa card)

The Insignia is a profile 1.1 player,if they gave a $100 instant rebate I would buy it.

Buyer beware! I'm not aware of any BluRay player that costs less than a PS3 that fully supports the entire BluRay spec. These cheap players may not support the final version of the spec and if so that means that extras on your BluRay discs may not work for titles released since early this year. You should be able to play the movie without any problems, but don't expect a $100 player today to fully support the spec. That might change 1 year from now though.

I know the (non-PS3) earlier players weren't as likely to have the connections necessary to update them, but don't the BR players require an ethernet connection to update? (Not trying to knock it, or anything, but just wondering how 'common' an ethernet connection would be for the general public.)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
