I have received no email. But I'm always up for polite suggestions. Thanks

Actually "we" would have, simply by replacing them ourselves with MTK Remaker, no tutorial necessary for that. Funny you should feel adressed by Tripper's remark though, after all it's you who managed to ask questions in all Philips threads on this forum that already had been answered there before.

I do so totally agree with you I'm quoting your message in full.

  6. Locating information in the forums here isn't always the easiest task.

I think I spent 45 minutes doing various searches and stumbling around here trying to find info on the 5990/27. That's a LOT of hunting and rooting around.

And I DID try to contribute by created the less vibrant images as well, since I didn't know what tools were used to create the new modifications.

If you guys already know everything, why haunt the thread dissing people who ARE here trying to learn and locate information?

Rather then give people worthless opinionated high n mighty crap, instead why not be more community minded, and help them out making thier own mods themselves?

I have been nothing but polite to you. In no way am I high and mighty. Everything that I suggest I have researched and have done myself. I spent at least a full day building a serial cable to flash the philips player and to change backgrounds and fonts. I only ask of you what I ask of myself. Have you even gone to the link I posted. If you have then you realize that a lot of smart people have already written programs to help you with the basics. The hard stuff is what vb6rocod does. He's trying to reverse engineer software which he does not have the source code.

And on another note if you would read the first post you will see a link to techflaws faqs. He has unselfishly spent his time creating a web page to help people like you.

  8. I did initially read the entire 10 page thread.. and was confused because it looked like there were subsequent/newer updates then what was in the initial post, which is why I asked the questions I did. Bricking my standalone player didn't seem like a great idea, so I asked before attempting anything that might damage it.

At any rte, this thread drift isn't really adding anything positive to the discussion.

Oh but it is, you simply read an entire thread on the topic you're interested in as well as similar topics. If you are smart you might also follow some links from there, like the one to my FAQ, for example.

To make them rethink their attitude and tap into resources already available so they don't start asking further questions already answered as well as encourage newcomers to do the same. Sound reasonable, doesn't it?

Agreed, since everything has been said maybe you just stop defending yourself and we're all moving on.

  10. Update 5990_37
    Not Tested

Final patch:Selectionbar follows playing file (mp3).
The blue bar sets the current playing file, and yellow bar shows the selectable files. When a current playing file is on the next page of filebrowser, the user can't see it because the yellow bar still remains on the previous page. Now with this patch, moving filebrowser to the next page when blue bar also moves.

I just picked up a 5992 to replace a Cyberhome CH655 I've owned for 4 years that has been showing signs of dying by not powering up from standby well and not reading divx files correctly. I picked the 5992 for cost, decent reviews, and the USB feature. I do miss the upconvert via component feature that the 655 had as I do see a slightly degraded picture with XVID movies and the 5992 (My HDTV is from 06/02 and does not have HDMI). I was even going to return the 5992 when I saw no "GOTO" button on the remote which I use alot.

Thanks to vb6rocod, for that feature alone, this modded firmware is a blessing. The long filenames, 8 list filebrowser is also great and I'm extremely appreciated for all your hard work. I noticed the blue selection bar not updating correctly when playing mp3's in folder mode so I'm glad this is fixed. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say "the yellow bar shows the selectable files".. I thought it acts as a cursor to select one file only. Is there a way to multiselect and have the player play a queued selection of songs??

Also, may I request a way to change the yellow bar to something less intrusive by changing color or shortening the length?? Or maybe the highlight can disappear after a second once selected as it gets in the way of the jpeg preview pictures.

Once again, thanks for all your great efforts.

  13. Yeah, he's made good players into great players!

Why7 these built in features are not enabled from the factory is beyond me. I'd think manufacturers would want to cram the most features in thier product to increase sales.

I also notice some degrading in viewing xvid avi files as well, specifically slightly yellowish and purplish "spots" Someone said it was probably a specific chip they use for decoding.

Seems The Latest FirmWare Version (DVP5990_37_vb6_v31_DivX_Logo) For The Philips DVP5990_37 Player Is *EXCELLENT* Based On Our Recent Preliminary Tests.

Thank You Vb6rocod *Very, Very* Much For Your Efforts.

NOTE: Our Preliminary Testings With This Latest FirmWare Version Were Similar To Our Previous Testings With Older FirmWare Versions.

You can change transparency for window 0x0F in MTKWindows. Set to 1 (now is 2 , 3 is opaque). I make a test with "1" and is more "transparent", also yellow color is not so intense. Changing color is a hard job... But try to understand me, is really hard to make for each of you a new version....what is in my computer... soon I must buy a new HD.

  20. Question.. can other files be on a usb stick when you upgrade, or should the stick be empty? I've always removed other files first, but if I don't need to, that would save time.

    Hi vb6rocod,
It's my first post here and I would just like to ask you whether there may be a possiblity of a firmware mod for the DVP5990/05 available in the near future please. It seems to be the only model currently available to the UK (I just purchased one from Amazon after waiting ages for them to come back in stock). I've looked at your blog page and what you've done with the DVP5990/37 looks amazing. I used to have a Yamada 6600 about five years ago and i used to love the mods for that.
    Thanks in advance. T.

Ha ha. Thought there might be a correlation somewhere. Brilliant. Thank you ever so much. I've seen how much hard work you've put into making this firmware bulletproof but just to have a machine that can transfer data through USB2.0 at USB2.0 speeds is great. About time too..!

Thanks for the speed of your reply too.

    First of all amassing work!!!!

I have installed DVP5990_37_vb6_v3. I love 8 lines but I have few questions:
    1. Is there any way of displaying longer filenames or there is limit?
    2. How to display CD art all the time wile browsing files?
    - my always appears on bottom and I have to highlight it to show it
and then disappears after selecting some other mp3 file?
    3. How to get to other folder other then scrolling all the way to the top of that folder?

    Did I said WOW!!!!

    Thank you all

  29. I think the only way to display longer filenames is with a smaller font. I know I'd love to have more then 20 as well.
