  1. If I record and finalise a DVD (4xdatawrite & Bulkpaq x4) they won't play on my Cyber Home DVD player. Yet if I copy the finalised DVD onto another blank it will play seems a waste

Is this just a Panasonic drawback?

No latest firmware available as far as I know for either machine?

    Thanks

That's why I didn't buy one. The machines are bulletproof as far as reliability goes BUT....

Don't blame the E50. Your problem sounds like bad media.

It's an issue with your player, not the Panny.

I have an E50 and it took a lot of experimenting to find a media it burned every time perfectly. I did, and the media is Taiyo Yuden TYG01 and TYG02. It loves Ty media.

My Pioneer 107 loves everything I've thrown at it, but the E50 is pickier. But once you find the right media for your machine ....nice

Yours might not like TY, as each machine has its own personality, but it's a good starting point

On the reason for your first post, you're seeing "pickiness" with your set-top player. If the Panny E50 burned it with no errors, it was a good burn. If you don't see the "RECOVER" screen of death, it's good

  4. Don't worry, you bought a good DVD recorder.

From my personal experience with the model E60 (which is almost the same as yours), if you don’t want to have any problem with the quality of the recordings and compatibility with other DVD players, do this:

    1. Go to Setup and set Hybrid VBR Resolution to Fixed (default setting is Automatic).
    2. Never use XP mode (1Hr) recording. Some DVD players are choking playing DVD’s from Panasonic machines recorded with this high bit rate.
    3. For recording anything up to 2Hrs of length use only the SP preset. My tests show that this setting yields better recording quality than a Flexible Recording set on 2Hrs.
    4. Use a Flexible Recording for the recordings over 2Hrs.
    5. Use an Automatic Hybrid VBR Recording for any length over 2Hrs and 15 minutes. Some DVD players have a problem playing shorter lengths of DVD’s done on this mode.
    6. Always use the best quality DVD-R’s!

  6. "Bulkpaq x4"

Actually, those have the nickname of 'Bulkcrap'

Get some 2x Accus from meritline.com, about 460 per 100. I write them on a Panny with 99.8 success. They play on every kind of dvd player I have tried them on.
    Other people said so too.

  8. The Panasonic is alot better unit than Cyberhome, I'd say that's the problem. My Panasonic recorded discs play in everything.

    No problems with my E55.
Tried 7 or 8 different brands in several standalone DVD players.

This is true, that is one of the reasons why I bought the JVC M10SL. I like the sharp picture of the Panasonic recorders but the compatibility of the authoring was a very big issue with me. That is why I use my computer to author and the Panasonic to capture. Good luck.

  11. I have the E50 and use the cheap CompUSA brand 1X DVD-R media (burned over 300 of them). I have never had a bad disc and every disc plays on the three players I have at home my two sisters players and my mothers player.

  12. I hate to repeate myself all over again, but I have over 300 happy customers WITHOUT ANY COMPLAINS on my recordings with Panasonic E60. I just follow the simple instructions that I gave you in my previous reply...
...I don't have any intention of saying that Panasonic is the best DVD recorder (tell me which one it is and I will by it immediately) but it is probably the best value on the market today.
