I have been using a Philips DVDR 880 recorder for about 6 years and it worked fine - until it 'died'.
This has left me with a number of unfinalised DVD recordings [including one of my wedding ] which can't be read by anything I have, finalised, or copied to my hard drive, or another DVD.

    PLUS

I am iMac based - so I can't use Isobuster, as has been suggested elsewhere in the forums.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?? or even an olde DVDR 880 they no longer need perhaps

The ISOBuster thing doesn't work anyway. You must find another Philips recorder. I'd offer to help you, but you're in UK, and I don't have a PAL version Philips.

  3. Take one of the least-important discs to your local electronics showroom that you know has current Phillips recorders on display. Ask if they'll let you try and finalize the disc on one of them, explaining if it works you might be in the market for a replacement recorder. If the new machine finalizes your old disc, buy the cheapest new Phillips they have. A small price to pay to salvage your wedding video: avoids making awkward excuses to the inlaws, not to mention your wife.

Following advice found on another thread on this very forum, I tried using NerovisionExpress to extract the data recorded on unfinalized -R's, and although I was skeptical at first, it did recognize there was a track on the disc and copied the file to the HDD. This has literally saved my life!
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl
