I am authoring a home dvd, using DVD-lab. The source files are D/2 (352x480) mpeg2, and I use DVD-lab to demux, an intro movie, a menu, and two more movies.

Since DVD-lab isn't talking to my DVD-RW, I am using NTI to burn a "data DVD" of the two folders created by DVD-lab when the movie is compiled.

Previously, I've used DVD-lab to burn this type of movie with PNY CD-R media in mini-DVD format, and it works fine in my standalone DVD player. This project is 1.8 GB, so I'm using Sony DVD-R media. The disc plays fine in my laptop (tested two different ones), but not in my home standalone Mintek (cheap Best Buy) DVD player. In the DVD player, I get vertical stipes (bars) of black and white. It seems to act like it's playing (gives some indications when I press certain buttons on the remote), but I don't get anything useful, and can't get a menu or title screen.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Any info needed to help me diagnose this? I checked the media, and it seems to be okay--since it works in the laptops.
Can this be that my DVD player doesn't like the Sony DVD-R media, where it doesn't mind the PNY CD-R stuff?
Or, does this sounds like an authoring problem with the D/2 material (which works on CD-R stuff on the player)?
Or, can this be using NTI to burn the folders to the DVD-R disc?

    thanks for you help,
    Tim

I may be wrong but a data DVD won't play in your stand alone player. Try creating an ISO of you 'movie' and then use DVD Decrypter to burn it.... another test .

The data I am burning is the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders created when compiling the project in dvd-lab. I thought that a 'movie' DVD is really just a data DVD with a specific structure, and by writing that structure, I should make a DVD that works.

Please, let me know if I'm off in my assumption, as I don't want to waste too many DVD-R's (and have noted to myself I really need some DVD-RW to do testing on all this.

    Thanks,
    Tim

It is a data DVD, but needs a certain UDF/ISO TOC. There are many different types of data DVDs, with different types of UDF, ISO, and Joliet descrypters, DVD-VIDEO needs the correct settings for each type.

Use imgtools to create an image file of your VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders then burn with DVD Decrypter.
Linux _is_ user-friendly. It is not ignorant-friendly and idiot-friendly.

Thanks for clarifying. I'll try these out tonight, and hopefully get a good disc. I appreciate everyone's help... there is so much information, I've been wading through, and it's good to be able to ask someone.
