    Hello,

I was wondering if it would be possible to re-use a usb hub from an old monitor. I got it out of one, but it appears to also got power from the monitor itself, with a 6 wire connection... Is there a way to wire it up to an external power supply to use the hub?

    Thanks in advance!

Not worth the effort. Much easier, and likely even cheaper, to just buy a new (and better) hub.

  3. You're probably going to need an electrics expert who's familiar with them for that one. You'll be lucky....

USB Hubs are pretty cheap. Even USB 3.0 hubs these days. The cheapest passive USB 2 hub on Amazon at the moment is $1.87

And after a quick search I found a powered USB 3.0 Hub for $18.99

Chances are some of the wires power the hub itself while others supply power over the USB connection for devices that require it. That's a guess, but I'm not sure you could easily combine them to run from a single power supply.

    I'd rather buy a good USB3 hub.

    Then recycle the monitor.
Maybe even recycle after throwing it at a brick wall. Stress relief.
