...when numb nuts croaks? He's 78 and they say he's hurtin' for certain. You don't hear about a dictator in waiting. Man, it would be a phenomenal place to vacation after a few Hyatts get built.![]()

Shouldn't we own Cuba by now? I mean damn.

cuba is still a nice vacation spot , lot of nice places there ... lots of people go there for vacation, except americans ..
lots and lots of old 50's american cars there and toyotas and vw's (toyotas and vw's just like just about anywhere in the world from china to panama)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
BTW -- avoid political discussion - which is where this could/has drifted ...
the cold war is over anyway ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Cuba is a very nice vacation place for many people from all over the world LOL its just only some northern-americans cant go there due to political reasons, thus its kinda hard to discuss it without going into stinky politics
IMO long live Castrothe longer he is there instead of US-owned corporations - the longer we will have this great vacation spot for free (well, almost free LOL)

My parents are Cuban and fled in 1956 while Castro was still fighting in the mountains. Funny how the US backed him in an effort to oust Bautista only to have him declare himself a communist later!!
Anyhow -- there are a few key people that are possible successors, even his brother is said to be a candidate. I really do not think that he will pass and leave a power vacuum. Someone either better or worse will step in.
Unfortunately the remaining Cuban's have one greater fear than a communist dictatorship -- a leadership that will restore relations with the US. The common people's greatest fear is that Cuban exiles and those that left Cuba during the revolution (many of them were property owners and owned businesses) will return and reclaim what was once theirs. Castro has instilled a greater fear that the Cubans will loose the little they do have if a pro-US regime is installed!!
I've never been there, but the stories from my parents and pictures reveal a beautiful island once known as the "Pearl of the Caribbean".
It's really sad -- I grew up in Miami -- 90 miles from Cuba and my Grand Parents and numerous relatives lived their lives and passed away never having known me or me never having seen them. -
I wonder if it's Cuba's turn for some prosperity after 45 years of a dictatorship and poverty. It used to be a pearl, like you said Ripper. Sad that one man can gather that kind of power to completely suppress an entire country without any accountability for so long.
What was sad was the people who fled to Florida had to leave behind family and friends to live a free life. Some never saw them again.
A while back Castro used to make these lame gestures by opening up the prisons and sending all the convicts to the US, saying "see, they're free to leave". :P I hope some of those convicts go back there and really raise hell with the old man -
convicts AND gays actually

I thought Canada was already annexed into the US. Did Trump sell it back to the french again.
They seem to enjoy using all their change in the US. Use $20CAN and get quarters. Use them in certain machines in the US and you're really only out $16 US. I use a US quarter in CAN and they won't give me any change back. It's all good though. It gives the US purchased rights to make fun of aboot every one of yoou Canadians, eh?
As for Cuba, we should have Nuked their a**es long ago, by now the radiation would be subsiding enough to rebuild and turn it back into a paradise. The palms would have a lovely green glow to them. You'd just have to watch out for the palmettos that have grown tentacles that grab small animals and pull them into their beak-like mutation mouth. They'd all die off soon anyway once car exhaust makes it into the air. It's that or it does another horrible mutation.
I had a doctor here in Vegas that though I was Canadian. Upstate NY is not what I would call Canadian..............until you hit Plattsburg.Northern Vermont should have just been Called Little Canada.

no - northern Maine is little Canada ..
there are so many Canadians down in Florida, that they have a couple of newspapers just for them (including a French one) - Canada also pays for their medical while they are there, don't have to be in Canada every 6 months like before .. we really know it is just a plot to get the old folks away from us .. we also send them to Elliot lake (look it up) which is 500 miles from nowhere (this is true - the gov just about bought the whole town for a retirement village) ..
i guess its fair - since Toronto ships its garbage to Michigan (200 trucks a day!) ... which is pretty weird when you think about it .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I know a guy who lives in Cuba. I never met him or anything but I've been sending him "care packages" of extra music CD's that I no longer need. He found me on another mesage board. I've asked him occasionally about the basic "situation" in Cuba but he is VERY vague even in an e-mail. I also need to make the packages (padded envelopes really) as small and non-conspicuous as possible or he says he won't get them....he never replied to my questions as to WHY he wouldn't get them. Will they be stolen or confiscated in some way....was my question to him....the only reply was that he had to go somewhere to pick up his mail "in person"....I found that answer to my question VERY odd.
Hell...the fact that this guy is able to e-mail me from Cuba amazes me....and he received both packages I sent too.....weird. I'm having trouble understanding the "situation" in Cuba to say the least... -
