  1. First question, when using DVD shrink it always seems to give me DVD burn incomplete when I use 8x speed. Yes my disc are 8x. When I use 6x everything works fine, why though ?

Second question, I have bought a few DVD's from best buy and I wanted to back them up, now some of these DVD my cd rom drive will not recognize them, so I put them in my DVD-r burner and I decrypt the files onto my hard drive. But when ever I do this, in 1 part the movie will not play past. Why would this happen ? If I ever backup the DVD from the DVD ( not from the files from the hard drive ) everything works out ok.

So what would cause this freezing problem, and what can I do about my cd-rom not recognizing some of my DVD's ?

    Hi 90blackcrx,

Freezing is a common symptom of poor media - either the brand in general or that particular disc isn't 100%.

I've also seen freezing where the bitrate (audio + video) of an encoded MPEG was too high (either out of the range in the specs, or just too high for the player). But, this won't apply in your case.

If you really mean "CD-ROM" and "DVDs" then I'm surprised it's recognising any of them. If you mean either "DVD-ROM and DVDs" or "CD-ROM and CDs" then that's more realistic.

As for the problem: What error message do you get when it doesn't recognise them? What is your CD/DVD-ROM drive (Hint: Update your computer details in your profile...)? What is the brand of the discs?

More info... As much as is relevant.

  3. Well I actually burned the movie twice on 2 cd's, so what does it mean if the freezing happens in the same spot ? Wouldn't that rule out the media ?

Also dvd shrink just says no disc inserted into cd-rom/dvd player drive, it only does it with a few dvds. So then I have to put the disc into my dvd burner and I use decrypter and then I use dvd shrink and open the foler containing the files, but when I do it that way, thats also when I seem to get freezing problems.

OK 90blackcrx - You need to confirm this:

    1. You're using DVDShrink to get a DVD movie from a DVD9 disc down to a DVD5 disc size. Y / N ?

    2. You're then burning to CD (as per your last post). Y / N

I ask coz I'm not sure if you're getting CDs mixed up with DVDs... Or, if you're making SVCDs (that will go on to a CD disc) you're not saying so...

    I'm confused...

1.I am using dvd shrink to make the movie filer smaller so yes

    2. No I am burning to a dvd-r

The first topic I kept calling my cd rom my cd rom but actually its a cdrom/dvd player. So I don't understand why some of the dvd's are not being recognized by the dvd player.
