I get this error msg with one of my XVID file "improper audio VBR" which results in it being WELL OUT of synch when I direct- stream it with Virtualdub and then burn onto disc with nero. I don't want to make a mpeg file as I can watch it on disc through my (divx) dvd player ( a lot quicker ) Is there a guide to encode it properly. I've looked at either ideas but those are for people who want to make DVDs unlike myself but just a xvid file to put onto disc and then watch on tv. Any ideas. Please step forward thanks alot.

What are you doing with VirtualDub, if you have an XviD file, and just direct stream it?

Well normally hogberg with this Xvid compression I would just click direct stream for both audio and video direct stream and save it as an avi file but with the error message improper vbr I can't do this without putting itout of synch. That's why I feel I must extract audio/video separately and then somehow put them back together.

In effect, direct streaming does nothing at all, besides saveing a new version of the same file. What's wrong with your original AVI, that forces you to run it thru VirtualDub?

I have solved it now. But to answer your question hogberg the original would have been out of synch on disc so to solve it I had to extract the .wav and use full processing, unlike direct stream as I did the first time lol, and that way I was able to merge the audio and video and save as an avi file.

So the prob with the original is that your player doesn't like AVIs with VBR audio?

It would seem so mats.hogberg. But it does warn you that some audio files might end up askew. To be quite honest I really don't understand what VBR is. Ibelieve my audio was MP3 Frauenhofer, well that is what the virtualdub info indicated. I actually converted the .wav audio with besweet to reduce the audio size which after FP reached over 1GB. Anyway we are all happy now.
