  1. Are there any capture cards designed for US satalite services like DirectTV? I really want to do digital rips from my satalite but all the digital satalite capture cards iv found are for europe only. The 2 iv found are below, iv tried emailin the companies about a US version but got no response so hopefully someone here will know more.

  3. I think that the provideo 911 is such a card.
I have posted questions about it THREE TIMES(HERE), and had no response.

    Check out the provideo website.

There are several standard for digital ATSC DVB and ISDB
These basically boil down to different ways of treating signals

There are 2 formats ATSC (USA) DVB / ISDB for the UK/Europe

For terrestrial American transmit in ATSC VSB modulation and UK / Europe transmit in ISDB / DVB QFDM format

For Satellite the UK use DVB QPSK and for Cable they use DVB QAM format.

I think the Americans might use the same or ATSC VSB throughout.

The brooktree chip used by many capture cards can accept a digital signal though its IO port when processed by an appropriate chip and then through a standard MPEG decoder chip any CAM can be plugged into the PCI bus and CIM CAM be utilised from a certain address.

    Chips Philips of interest include
    DVB-T OFDM TDA10045H_4.pdf
    DVB-T ATSC TDA8961 TDA8980.pdf

    DVB-C QAM cable TDA10021HT_4.pdf

    DVD-S QPSK TDA10085_4.pdf

For mpeg stream decoders look at
    MPEG2 Source Decoder SAA7214_N_3.pdf or
    MPEG2 Transport SAA7240_1.pdf

and finally conextant Fusion878A datasheets and application notes.

I am surprised Hauppauge don't do a card suitable for the US system. Their terrestrial card does not support Mediaguard/Seca CAM as of yet but I believe there satellite cards support CAM's like video crypt etc.

look out for hauppauge win tv dvb/s
It is capable to receive most of the dvb/s mpeg 2 transmissions. You have to use the windvblive software
    look here: http://www.odsoft.org
    Works with NTSC

In US you have many digital satellite transmission systems...
mpeg 1.5 is one of them, totaly unsupported. Is the xDVB/s system!
Motorola's Digi Chipher is more common. There is on card for this system.
mpeg 2 dvb/s is not so common yet there. But is the future!
    good luck!
