    Hello,

Your best bet is to go back to the original source and recapture/backup.

Other than that you can get marginal improvement with virtualdubmpeg2. This version accepts mpeg files but it outputs to avi. That avi needs to be converted back to mpeg if your going to make a vcd or dvd. When you convert a lot you lose quality.

  3. is there a difference from mpg1 or mpg2 vs. vcd and svcd? Reason I ask is that these movie clips I have are lousy as I stated earlier. I would like to convert them to dvd which I know how to do. problem is that I have no original. If I convert to dvd I pass on the bad quality. Is there a program ( not tmpgenc) that will convert or improve the quality so that I may be a suitable quality?
    thanks again.
I have been using nero 6+ with limited quality success.

    Hello,

Like I said you won't get it to look a lot better. The filters will improve them a LITTLE.

MPEG1 is VCD and is pretty crummy quality (1150 video bitrate)

MPEG2 is SVCD OR DVD - SVCD 2000 or so, DVD is 3000 and up (generally).

MPEG2 is much better than vcd, assuming of course, you have a good source to start with.

Garbage in, garbage out. That's the rule.

AFAIK there's not a lot you can do to get rid of pixelation from your source. You can clean up noise pretty easily but pixelation squares are pretty much unfixable.
    If in doubt, Google it.
