Hi, i am converting a film and i was following a tutorial and when i check the fram rate it is 23 and so it is ntsc but because im from england and so play pal, in TMPGEnc when i choose whether pal or ntsc do i click pal because im in england and dvd's play pal or do i click ntsc because of the frame rate of the avi file? Hope that makes sense and gratefull for any help anyone has!

  2. If your TV can handle NTSC (and most modern ones can), leave it as NTSC since every time you re-encode you loose quality. If you're already converting it a lot will depend on your encoder and you might as well try converting it to PAL while you're at it - but I would expect the results to be less than satisfactory on the whole.

  4. All DVD players should handle PAL / NTSC as it's not format dependant, however saying that I've seen some American DVD players that don't know what to do with PAL. The discs play but the output is messed about. I have never seen a player sourced from a PAL region that can't handle NTSC, howewer.

Some players will actually do the conversion for you in a way (ie reframing), or output a hybrid called PAL-60. Just beware that a lot of modern TV's that will handle NTSC, will only do it on one input, usually SCART 1. You may have to turn this feature on, depending on how "smart" the telly is.

thanx 4 ur help! another question, in the encoding section using tempgenc or whatever it is, the section inverse telecine was already selected, something to do with converting it from 30fps to 24? that was already selected. what do i do for that? do i leave it or do i change it because it says nothing about this in the tutorial?
