  1. I have a Mintek DVD-1600 set top DVD. This box plays just about everything I have thrown at it. MPG-1s,JPGs e.t.c. I use Adapted EZ-CD Creator version 3.36, which came with my HP Diskwriter 1900 to run 700 MB-740MB 4x-8x cds I also use TMPGENC v2.51 to do some conversion from avi,asf to mpg1.I have VCD-Easy but have not used it yet.

Ok now that you now that you know what I am working with. Here is my question. If I just use EZ-CDcreator to burn and mpg1 video onto a 700MB cd the Mintek plays it just fine. In fact I have use some advise I found here on the forums to decrease the bit-rate at the expense of video clarity to fit even bigger mpg files on a cd. The Mintek just shows the title of the whatever mpgs are on the cd in its own menu and you press play and the file plays.

I want to start using VCD-easy to make my one menus with mpg stills and chapter points to specific scenes and small video clip motion menus. I have read the guides here on the site and thing I know how to do it. My question is if a 711MB mpg files just BARELY fits on a cd. How are all the mpg still,XML files with the PBC,Folder and MPG menu clips, chapter information e.t.c going to fit on the cd too. I mean when I burn now there is JUST enough room for the mpg file itself. Sometimes I have to decrease the bitrate with TMPGENC to get a smaller mpg file to make a movie fit.

    Am I missing something here??

    Hello,
VCD uses minutes not megabytes to determine space capacity. 80minute cd-rs will fit 80minutes of mpeg1 vcd level video (obviously older 74 minute cdrs will only hold 74minutes). It's a different compression than straight file size (unlike divx which HAS to fit on a 700mb disc - ie actually be 700mb except for overburning ). Hope this helps.

    Thats not really accurate.
The size of an mpeg file is determined by the bitrate and playing. VCD's are normally encoded at 1150Kb/s and this equates pretty dam close to 10Mb/min. However. VCD standard allows videos to be encoded UP TO 1150kbps, so you can encode lower and as long as you use CBR mpeg-1, it will still be VCD compliant.

The reason you can fit 800Mb of VCD on an 80 mins CD is that VCD's are written differntly from normal data CD's. A lot of the usual error correction data is not written (as there is already sufficient in the mpeg stream) allowing for an apparent increase in capacity.

Shaba1, you can fit ~800Mb on an 80min CD in VCD format, 740Mb on a 74Min CD. The chapter/menu information takes up relativley little. Just allow a few 10's of Mb overhead and you should be fine.

That was really my point. Sorry if I wasn't completely accurate. But yeah, it works.
